It had spots and stripes, but it was no ordinary feline dropped off at the Arizona Humane Society.
It was a baby bobcat.
"Initially everyone in admissions was looking at it as if it was a kitten," AHS spokeswoman Bretta Nelson said. "But it became very apparent when he opened his mouth and it was not a meow that came out. It was quite a noise."
A Scottsdale man dropped off the kitten on Tuesday after spending three days bottle-feeding it at his home. He first discovered the animal Saturday, walking along Cave Creek Road near Dynamite Boulevard.
In similar situations, AHS advises baby bobcats be left alone, as often their mothers temporarily leave to find food.
The bobcat is doing well at Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center, where he will eventually be released back into the wild.
cute little critter...but I’ll keep my distance.
Now that must have been funny. Good thing mommy didn't happen by when the guy picked up the kitten. A cute and fluffy moment would have turned bloody and painful real fast.
I’ve got an 18 lb. orange tabby that has markings very similar to that — seems to be an honest mistake, I think.
Releasing this pretty kitty won’t do much for him... he’ll look to humans for food and companionship.
From what I understand, lynx are tameable, bobcats are not. Had a half lynx half siamese once. Beautiful, gentle cat with huge paws.
“I’ve got an 18 lb. orange tabby that has marking similar to that...”
Are you SURE it is a cat now?!!! LOL!! Maybe you have an 18 pound bobcat that you think is a cat?!
... for your consideration. Meow!
LOL. L,townm has had a bobcat all this time, just didn’t know it.
I adopted a young, skinny wolf from a couple of adorable Asian girls who brought her in saying their mom couldn’t handle the Siberian Husky that showed up at her door one night.
I checked the location on Google and it’s right on the edge of open desert.
Some jerk abandoned some kittens not far from me. I found one alive. I am now bottle feeding it. Definitely a cat.
Wow, I wish you had a picture you could share.
My sig line got changed. Hm. Weird.
My dad told a story about a bobcat. In your home town travelers would wait in front of the town hall for buses to taken them places. There was a bench there for there use while waiting for the bus. Across the street was a store that sold home made ice cream and soda floats. So people would leave their packages or suit cases next to the bench and go over to the store. When there was no one around a car would drive up and some one in the car would snatch a suit case. Then the car would speed away. My dad and his older brother trapped a full grown bobcat. They stuffed it into a suit case (dad has scares on his arms form that instant.) With the suit case in toll, off they went to the city hall. Put the suit case next to the bench. They went over to the store and watched to see what would happen. They had a soda float while waiting. It was 90 degrees out side at that time. The suit case was setting out in the sun for about a half hour. When a car drove up, a hand reached out and snatched the suit case. Then the car roared off. My dad and his brother raced outside to see what would happen next. They saw all four doors of the car open and four persons jumping out of the car. Their cloths ripped to shreds and blood streaming form cuts and bits. It seems that the bobcat did not like being cooped up in that suit case and sitting in the sun. That ended the taking of suit cases from travelers. Yes the persons that were stealing the suit cases were arrested. When they went to the hospital for treatment. There car ended up hitting a tree and was tolled away. The bobcat ran off and was not hurt. Just one peed off bobcat. Dad said “The car seat were ripped and blood stained.”
We have two Maine Coonish kitties, Norman and Olivia. Norman, we think, frequently channels his inner bobcat.
I have a couple of kitties who are listed as Maine Coon in their medical records. The boy is 23 pounds, the girl is 17 pounds.
They are not Maine Coons. Their mother was a tiny 8 pound short hair tabby.
My friend was trying to catch a fairly tame stray kitten named Rusty, to take her to the vet to get neutered. Rusty bit by friend's arm to the bone! She had to wear a sort of cast on her arm for 4-days and take antibiotics.
It was really quite frightening. I was in the next room and both Rusty and my friend were screaming.
Maybe Scott will take Daryl for VP.
