A Colorado woman was cited for a seat belt violation when the police officer who pulled her over during a routine traffic stop discovered she had removed her child from a car seat to make room for a gas can.
The unidentified female driver was stopped after making an improper turn in Aurora, Colo., on May 30. The woman and her two childrena 14-year-old and the toddlerwere not wearing seat belts. But a photo of the back seat taken by the officer for the Aurora Police Department's "Click It or Ticket" campaign shows the gas can was secured with the seat belt meant for the young child.

Maybe its me, but this seems to be blown way out of proportion and its difficult to believe this is considered a news story.

I agree. I’m not saying what she did is right but it really does look like mom ran to the corner store to get gas for the mower. Slide the debit card, pump for about 60seconds and return home.
Why did Jr need to be dressed for that? Heck, he was probably going to be playing in a sand box or wading pool when they returned home.
Anyhow, I don’t think it was that big a deal—certainly not worthy a news story. I guess mom could have left Jr home alone, that would have been better, eh? *eye-roll*
A bungee and a box in the trunk works pretty good for a quick trip. I can’t believe I’m still alive, I stood in the back seat of my moms car as a wee one.
Yep, he does have a lap portion of the belt on.
Interestingly enough, at least one state that does’t mandate helmets DOES mandate eye protection when riding. I actually support that, because debris in the eye can cause a loss of control thereby putting others at risk.
Now that’s a gassy baby.
Stick it!
The driver was overthinking this anyway.
Put lap belt kid has on over the gas can. Like she did on the car seat.
Put kid in car seat.
If this photo was taken by the officer why are we able to see it?
I raised 5 kids and not one ever wore a seat belt....its just a money maker for the state...I use to love sitting in the back of the old pick up truck when going someplace when I was a kid....but that was before WW2.
Perhaps it was HOT outside....just a diaper on a little kid is still legal.....
best remark so far......:O)
the cops need a raise and need to keep their pensions flowing after their 20-30 yrs....tickets are part of the game...
