An Administration of Calm Competence (A positive view of Leavitt)

Politico profiles former Utah Governor, HHS Secretary and EPA Administrator Mike Leavitt, who it reports is the individual Mitt Romney has tapped to think through what a transition would look like, how the priorities of President Romney would be implemented and how the first moves of a Romney Administration roll out.

This is very good news on many fronts.

First, the country will have little margin for error or time to squander when the new president and the new Congress assemble gather in 2013. Given the continued crisis in the economy over the lack of growth except in spending where the growth is out of control and no national budget has been agreed upon for three years, planning now for the possibility of a fresh start then is very prudent and urgently necessary.

Second, Leavitt is the face of competence --calm, experienced, wise. His task foreshadows how a Romney Administration will operate. Here's a clip of Leavitt in 2007 discussing the response to Avian Flu pandemic while head of HHS, a demonstration of calm, competent communication as well as of prudent planning.

Finally, deeper down in the story is this observation about Leavitt: "'He's 100 percent in it for Mitt, no secret agenda for himself,' said one Romneyite." This combination of discretion and loyalty separates professionals from amateurs, as does steadiness and maturity. If most of Romney's appointments are like Leavitt in character and competence, it will mark a huge departure from the amateur hour of the past three years, and an opportunity to restore the country's economic and security health.

President Romney will appoint conservatives to plan and execute bold reforms according to a list of priorities.

If he wins...which you should be helping him do. Start today.

Hewlett saw a silver lining when Ca elected Brown (his wife is VERY sensible).

Hewlett’s heart may be pure but his judgement sucks.

I heard him once on the radio. His obsequiousness to RINOism and the wise Republican GOP-e was sickening beyond words. My instincts kicked in and told me this guy could NEVER be called, what in the old days was , a real man.

Leavitt, our former gov, is a pure RINO who leans so far left, he looks like a commie at times. I can’t imagine why Mitt would choose such a big-gov and high tax idiot like Leavitt. Whatta mistake! Even Mark Levin was talking about this as a major political error by Mitt.
