Rep. Silvestre Reyes had endorsements from President Obama and former President Bill Clinton, but the long-time Democratic lawmaker nevertheless lost his Texas congressional seat in a tight primary Tuesday night.

We’ll take all we can get.....
Adios “Silver”! Recount?
Beto will face republican Barbara Carrasco in November!
El Paso? Seems like a border town would be solidly left of center. Perhaps New Mexico to the north will be in play, if they can be kept honest.
Gonna be some dust bitin’ going around this Nov.
Who cares? Its Republican reps that have been there forever easily winning nominations that we should be worried about.
Thanks Twotone.
But???? why not "unexpectedly?"
I’m happy when ANY obama supporter loses.
O’Rourke benefitted from several factors. One, he is a local politician who got his face on the news every chance he had for the last two years, as opposed to Reyes who basically lives in DC. Two, Reyes is universally despised because his corruption is legendary but since dems have a 5 to 1 registration advantage it took another Dem to unseat him. Three, since there is hardly any pubbies running in El Paso the primaries are often a formality so many republicans smelled Reyes’ blood in the water and crossed over to vote in the Dem Primary. The only reason I didn’t is because I wanted to be able to participate in the Cruz-Dewhurst run off.
” - - - Reyes, the former chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, is the sixth House incumbent defeated in this election cycle so far.”
GREAT NEWS! Thanks for this article!
There is time for crossover voting, but I appreciate your dilemma. Cruz made it to a run off from hell. Money and fur will be flying airborne and hazardous by Dewhurst. Tension is high already.
Congrats on getting Reyes out, El Paso!
Doing happy feet dance!!! YEAHHHHH BABY!! I crossed over and voted for Beto!!! OH HAPPY DAY!
Now lets hope that lots of Reyes supporters have sour grapes and stay home for the general.
TEXAS and the USA thank you! Very much.
I crossed over and voted for Beto!!!
So the Cruz / Dewhurst runoff is out for you. Beto was well known as a local politican or so I’ve read. Reyes defeat reminds me of when Jack Brooks got defeated back in 1994 by Stockman but that was a general not a primary.
Take care.
