I work in the industry. There is enough gas and oil around the world for hundreds of years. The distribution of this energy means less reliance on one region over another.
The danger is with an explosive middle east and the rise of radical islam, a sudden elimination of oil profits from arab countries could turn the people towards radicals for salvation......a pattern seen throughout history.

Looking at Saudi Arabia I'd say that horse left the barn a long time ago.
(I've been an o/g junkie for a long time. One of my life long regrets not being in this industry)

I hear you but I think it's better that this happen now is that rather than later. For decades oil profits have been allowing the Muslims to build up their weaponry. If radicalism in Islam was just a small fringe, as it is in Christianity, there would be little problem with this is but they have consistently used their military powers to advance Islamism. While all the time complaining that the West listens to much to the Jews, the Muslims have led the West around by the nose because we all feared they would cut off the oil. I am happy to see their world influence diminished. This will be gradual anyway. If they are smart (which they may or may not be), they will find a way to switch to a production and high tech economy rather than living on natural resources.
