Former Speaker of the House Thomas Finneran said hes leaving his post as a radio yakker on WRKO-AM, announcing on air this morning that Thursdays show will be his last.
Finneran said on the Tom & Todd morning show that he will be pursing other plans and opportunities out there in the real world and will sign off after Thursdays show. He joined the station in February 2007.
Were having a very amicable parting, he said.
Finneran lost his own law license and was sentenced to 18 months unsupervised probation after pleading guilty to obstruction of justice in 2007.
The charges stemmed from misleading testimony in a 2003 federal suit filed by minority voter groups upset over a House plan to redraw legislative districts along racial lines. Finneran denied knowledge of the plan but actually played a key role in crafting the new districts, prosecutors said.
Longtime host leaving WRKO--but not the one you think. (HE, Howie, could be gone in a couple months maybe...perhaps to 96.9 or 1200)
Sal will be on air.......Friday? Monday? :-)
Thanks!

>>One of Bostons more improbable morning men is departing radio. Tom Finneran, who left his position as Massachusetts House speaker in disgrace and then joined WRKO (680 Boston) as morning co-host in 2007, announced this morning that hell be leaving the station and apparently the radio business after Thursdays show. Finneran told listeners he has other opportunities in the real world. For now, that leaves Todd Feinburg as the solo host of the Tom and Todd show, but thats sure to change in a Boston talk market thats already abuzz with speculation about a possible new FM entry from Clear Channel. Much more next week
ha, hook up the ISDN line to his prison. Of course to be honest Sal has some health issues now too (Globe 5/19:
“Former House speaker Salvatore F. DiMasi has been diagnosed with cancer in his tongue and lymph nodes, his family confirmed Friday”)
Finneran knocked down an income tax cut that the people wanted. That costs you $150/yr if you make 50k.
Tom should be in jail, and I’m sure that Howie is “deeply saddened” about this news.
BRING BACK REESE! Reeseonthe radio/blogtalk
Indeed FelonMan should be in prison but in the halls of justice the only justice is out in the halls.
Howie’s first words today will be “My heart is like an alligator”. Followed by the playing of Happy Days are Here Again.
This, just, fell into Howie’s lap, and he couldn’t be more pleased.
May I be of assistance. :)
The critical missing information:
“...Thomas M. Finneran (born January 27, 1950), is a radio talk host and former Massachusetts Democratic politician who served as Speaker of the Massachusetts...”
Liz Warren just announced that he’ll be her new campaign manager.
Yes...btw regarding Happy Days Are Here Again I once tuned in to WFAN 660 in NYC, traditionally the Mets station there and
right after the Yankees blew a World Series —maybe 01
against the Diamondbacks, or 03 against the Marlins—someone called in and sang Happy Days are here again, they’re crying in their beer again. It is wait until next year again... etc
radio-info.com and try not to laugh when you read the part about working hard
>>Its official: Tom Finneran and Entercom talk WRKO-AM Boston have agreed to part ways. The former Massachusetts Speaker of the House will leave the station following his morning drive show Thursday, May 31. He has been with WRKO since February 2007. Finneran said in a release, Over the past several days, [VP of Programming] Jason Wolfe and I have been talking about various plans and opportunities which lie ahead for me and for the station. Those opportunities (are) not compatible with the hours I keep and the effort I make to prepare for and execute a well-informed show every morning. Wolfe added, Tom has worked very hard for WRKO these last five years and he did an excellent job. Finnerans co-host for the past few years, Todd Feinburg, now takes over as sole host of morning drive, beginning June 1.
And on what planet was this taking place?
Ah, nice to see that "minorities" bear no grudge against him. /sarc
