Thirty-three years ago, a science-fiction thriller with the memorable tag-line, In space, no one can hear you scream was released with little advance publicity and few expectations. Alien, which was only director Ridley Scotts second film, became an instant classic for its revolutionary depiction of a future where corporations used grimy space truckers in their quest for interplanetary profits and for its blood-curdling thrills.
The film, which cost £5 million to make, went on to gross £85 million worldwide and spawned a media storm of comic books, video games and toys, as well as three sequels and two prequel films. It also launched Sigourney Weavers acting career, and the story of her character Ripleys encounters with the alien creatures became the thematic thread that ran through the sequels Aliens (1986, which was directed by James Cameron), Alien 3 (1992) and Alien Resurrection.
Now, aged 74, he has returned with Prometheus, technically a prequel to Alien, a term Scott disapproves of, insisting that although it takes place in the same universe as Alien and it contains strands of Alien DNA, it stands on its own as a story.
The secretive Scott has kept details of it hush-hush, and websites have been devoted to frame-by-frame analyses of trailers, images and whatever clues Scott and cast members have let drop.
In the first film, the unlucky crew of the space freighter Nostromo finds a derelict spaceship with a space jockey a giant humanoid with an exploded chest in the pilots chair. Who he was and what he was doing there was never explained and the question has dogged Alien buffs ever since. Scott pitched the idea of a film answering the space jockey question to Fox studio executives but as he developed it, a grand new mythology emerged, he said later.

Doesn’t she have rather high-cheekbones?
She must be part Cherokee.
and How.
Yezzir, that there my FRiend is the heat.
And apparently she survives the mayhem....
Indeed. The trailers look awesome. I don't know how the xenomorphs will play out in the prequel. One of the trailers shows a small worm-like creature emerge momentarily from one of the characters eyeballs. Pretty creepy!
I didn't find her review, but I did find a lot of her other posts she starts with that phrase. She is more obsessed than Cato the Elder ending every speech with "Carthago delenda est".
You so rock, dude.
Classicaly gutting.
As a White Anglo Saxon Protestant woman & corporate attorney married to a Hispanic GANGSTER Rapper musician with a shaved head & tattoos from Los Angeles California USA, The Alien movies was really about Feminism & the ancient Aztec & Mayan cultures of Mexico. As a Liberal White woman being married to a Mexican-American man, I see the portrayal of the Monster & Grotesque which is a big part of Mexican culture where sacrifice of Human Beings is a way to please the Aztec & Mayan Gods. On the Feminine side, I see the Mother Alien as a beast who wants to self-generate herself to perpetuate her Aristocracy which is deeply ingrained in ancient Anglo-Saxon culture of England which I studied in my English families genealogy. But as a fan of The Alien movies, I would like to see the Meredith Vickers character played by Charlize Theron turn into the mother Alien in this PROMOTHEUS movie which would suit her personality & character
And my response? Obviously:
As a White Anglo Saxon Christian Male and Computer Developer working with a major international entity, I see the Original Alien as an expose of success of capitalism and the Tea Party (as the 99%-ers in the Nostromo are mowed down one by one) and a good proof that Keynsian economics cannot work. The Aliens are Socialistic beings who share everything equally and devour everything in their path, yet the White Anglo-Saxon and presumably Christian Ripley defeats them. In the second film, we see the female (the "Bitch" alien) sardonically representative of the militant feminism movement, where she seeks to kill and maim men, and lays her eggs indiscriminately, like she has the privilege of a N.O.W. membership, enslaving her hapless male drones to her will, as is extant in the real corporate world.
See? Two of us can play the lame psychobabble game, chicky.
:)
That's all I needed to know she's got a fat ass.
I just wonder how she prospers in her career as a corporate attorney, possessing, as she testifies, a shaved head and tattoos.
That you did
