The Boards have been heavy lately. Hopefully this can lighten the mood around here. Need helpsettling a family dispute.
What is the better sailing song?
Sloop John B by the Beach Boys
or Southern Cross by Crosby Stills and Nash
(the politics of the bands doesn't matter folks)
or do you have another song? IMHO these 2 are it and its a matter of degree which one is better.
“Blue Moon of Kentucky” - Don’t know the original artist
(j/k)
That is a great choice, my FRiend.
What do you do with a drunken sailor?
The Immigrant Song, Led Zeppelin
Sinbad the Sailor, a mighty sailor was he.......
Old Cartoon..
In honor of our gay president
Columbus had a cabin boy, he loved him like a brother....
My vote is for Southern Cross.
BUT...I like this song too:
Louie Louie, oh no, me gotta go, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, baby.
Louie Louie, oh baby, me gotta go.
A fine little girl, she waits for me.
Me catch the ship across the sea.
Me sailed the ship all alone.
Me never think I’ll make it home.
Louie Louie, oh no, me gotta go, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, baby.
Louie Louie, oh baby, me gotta go.
Three nights and days I sailed the sea.
Me think of girl constantly.
On the ship, I dream she there.
I smell the rose in her hair.
Louie Louie, oh no, me gotta go, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, baby.
Louie Louie, oh baby, me gotta go.
OK, let’s give it to ‘em right now
(guitar solo)
Me see . . .
Me see Jamaica, the moon above.
It won’t be long me see me love.
Me take her in my arms and then
I tell her I’ll never leave again.
Louie Louie, oh no, me gotta go, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, baby.
Louie Louie, oh baby, me gotta go
I said we gotta go now
Let’s step on out of here
Let’s go!
That was one VERY funny song/act!!!
For what it’s worth: “Chase the Clouds Away” by Chuck Magione
“Daddy was a Sailor” by Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
I went to a private high school which had an outstanding men's chorus (sang concerts twice with the Vienna Boy's Choir). My senior year we sang What Shall We Do With The Drunken Sailor. Most complex piece of music I've ever sung and a LOT of fun to sing.
One time during rehearsal he was so pissed about our poor performance he went on a rant and told the bass and baritone sections to "put some balls into it!" LOL!
Come sail away - Styx
“Brandy (You’re A Fine Girl)” by Looking Glass is a great sailing song too.
Parents be warned. We had a sail boat growing up. Nothing too grand, just a 24 footer with a small cabin. For a few years we had it moored in a river near the ocean. It was about a mile from the mouth. My brother and I would usually take our female companions out there. Just row out and sit on the boat. Summer night, a few beers, skinny dipping ensues....you know the rest. No chance for the cops to get you. Complete privacy at night. Those were the days.
Pirate Looks at Forty - Jimmy Buffett
Yea that one!
Another vote for “What do you do with a drunken sailor”
Brings back memories of many nights in the pub as a student singing along.
Viking Kitties
Valparaiso - Sting
“Sailin” —Rod Stewart
What the band was playing on the deck of the Titanic!
‘What Do You DO With a Drunken Sailor’ performed by the Craig Wisley Band. They’re awesome. Traditional, mostly Celtic music, original melodies with a rock tempo. Sort of like the Drop Kick Murphy’s but without the underlying hint of vilence anger and the punk attitude.
