LOS ANGELES (CBS) Hollywoods superhero summer has arrived with a vengeance.
The Marvel Comics mash-up The Avengers launched the summer movie season with a $200.3 million opening weekend domestically, by far the biggest debut ever.
If distributor Disneys revenue estimate Sunday holds when the final weekend count is released Monday, The Avengers would be the first movie ever to haul in $200 million in a single weekend.
A $200 million total for every movie in release is considered a great weekend for the business as a whole, so The Avengers redefines the standards for a blockbuster debut.
The Avengers shot past the previous record of $169.2 million for the debut of last years Harry Potter finale.
With $441.5 million overseas since last week, The Avengers worldwide total climbed to $641.8 million.

I watched it on Friday night. It was a good movie. The showing was sold out for the time I was attending, so they opened an additional showing which ended up packed as well.

Saw the movie last night. Great movie. I go to the movies at least twice a month and it’s the best movie this year, I have seen, so far.

Contrary to your tag line; I’d call that a definite statement of fact!

Are you serious???? Did you go there expecting to see a documentary on Grumman/GM torpedo bombers in WW2 or something?

I thought this woman, Agent Maria Hill, played by Cobie Smulders was smoking hot. I think she was better looking that Johansen's character.
At the end of the movie where she was walking away from the camera...? I had to bite tongue as I was with my sons.

no... the first five minutes were bad enough, but, the macho minority girl doing everything from working in the CIC to manning a gun on the assault boat was laughable, that and the fact that aliens that can travel here from another planet use conventional mechanical explosive weapons and not advanced weapons of a civilization capable of interplanetary travel was a joke too, and the guy saying the spaceship must of been made by the North Koreans was too much...
goto the Avengers, that was a riot

I'm so sick of having women built like men presented as being attractive... I was with my wife- fortunately, she wasn't interested in marrying a eunuch, so I didn't have to bite my tongue :)

Then, I take it that you are not a comic book fan? It was a good comic book plot, with heroes who aren’t angst-filled teenage mutants (i.e. The Avengers rather than the X-Men), so that was good enough for me. The fact that it had all three of my Marvel Comics favorites: Capt. America, Thor, and Hawkeye in one place was awesome!

OOOOH. I did misunderstand. I agree with you 100% on Battleship! Don’t even get me started on that steaming pile of CGI and bad acting. But, you gotta admit, the movie is based on a board game and makes about as much sense as the game.
