So far, it's not clear if the death is related to the rapper's battle with cancer.
Russell Simmons' website GlobalGrind.com first reported the death. We have spoken to people independently connected to the rapper who also say he is dead.
Yauch co-founded Beastie Boys in 1979 with Mike D, Mix Master Mike, and Ad Roc. The group has won multiple Grammys.
Yauch became a vegan at the recommendation of his Tibetan doctors.
Yauch is survived by his wife and daughter. He was 47.
Interesting tidbit to include.
One of the coolest white guys ever to walk the planet. Rest in peace, MCA, and say hey to Paul Revere for us.
Another one of my generation and my youth is gone.
Rest in Peace, Adam. You guys were an important part of the soundtrack of my high school and college days.
Maybe he ate a bad buttermilk biscuit with his posse on broadway.
The whole band had been involved with Tibetan causes for most of their career.
It was cancer. Cancer strikes many demographics; healthy, unhealthy, vegan, carnivore alike.
Steve Jobs was a vegan too. I’ll keep that in mind the next time I grill a steak.
That really sucks. I loved the Beastie Boys back in my more youthful days. I still queue up some of their songs on my iPod now and then.
Love the Beasties music
License to Ill and Paul’s boutique were masterpieces
FYI.
The Brooklyn-born musician known to fans as MCA was first treated for cancerous growths in his parotid gland and a lymph node in 2009 and subsequently underwent surgery and radiation therapy, which forced the delay of the Beastie Boys most recent album Hot Sauce Committee Part Two. His illness has also kept the group off the road, and Yauch missed the groups induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame two weeks ago.
When Ad-Rock and Mike D accepted the Beastie Boys induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame two weeks ago, they read a letter from Yauch thanking both his bandmates and the groups fans: Id like to dedicate this to my brothers Adam and Mike, he wrote. They walked the globe with me. Its also for anyone who has ever been touched by our band. This induction is as much ours as it is yours.
Yauch is survived by his wife, Dechen Wengdu, and their daughter Losel.

All the same, a death is always a tragedy. Shocked to hear this.
At least he went to rest with the Lord knowing that his band had been inducted into the RRHOF. That being said, he was an excellent lyricist and composer.
I was speaking more toward relevance than participating in any sort of commentary. Perhaps the author was commenting?
Beastie Boys in RRHOF. Deep Purple and Rush, not. I blame “bands” like the Beastie Boys and Nirvana for killing the Metal of the 80’s and 90’s.
“Sabotage” is probably my all-time favorite music video.
Ping
Thank God someone killed the metal of the 80’s.
sometimes it's a relief. sometimes it's a non-event.
