My Day .... Stuff Happens ....
In today’s mail, we received a letter from the California Highway Patrol. (what’s this?)
It was a form from CHP telling us they had our 2002 Ranger Pickup in Gilroy. I called to let them
know that our pickup was in our driveway. I was told that the pickup they had was registered to us.
After I gave her the license plate number from the vehicle in our driveway, she asked that I hold
until she pulled some paperwork. An officer then came on the line. He told me that the license number
I gave them was stolen. I read him the VIN number from our insurance policy. I was told that that was
the number on the vehicle they were holding.I was told that sometimes whoever takes the vehicle,
counterfeits the VIN number which matches the license plate they have stolen.
We were also told not to drive our pickup because if we were stopped, officers would pull
their guns on us before approaching our car. The reason would be because they would not know
what to expect from us. The CHP will personally check the vehicle they are, holding and get
back to us after they complete their investigation.
Before we left for Fresno, I pulled the registration ... the license plate number on the registration
matched the one on the pickup
being held. Hubby checked the license plate and the nut holding it in the bracket was loose. He then
checked the front license plate and found that it matched the vehicle on the notice. We had not noticed
that the front and rear license plates did not match.
We will talk to the officer again tomorrow, but it is apparent that someone stole our license plate
and possible a 5 gallon can of gas at the same time. About a month ago, hubby looked for the can of
gas for the tractor and it had disappeared. When I talk to CHP, I will ask when the pickup was
reported missing.
Yikes!
I hate when that happens.
That is just terrible, Amy. Seems that innocent people
have to suffer because of the bad people. I sure hope
they get to the bottom of this quickly. Something like
that would tear me all to pieces. Remember “Mama said,
there would be days like this.”
Do you think someone stole the plates with your truck parked
at your home? What hoodlums we have in this world!! Makes
your blood boil, doesn’t it?
