I just realized one of Edvard Munch's "Screams" is being offered at auction at Sotheby's in NYC on May 2. I'm not much of a fan of this sort of "art" but this is a BIG deal. According to Wikipedia, there are four versions of The Scream. The one being offered is the pastel version. The image below is one copied from the Sotheby's catalog and differs slightly from others available I might have linked to.
The Sotheby's catalog indicates that the estimated price for this piece is available on request. The Wikipedia article notes that this item is expected to fetch $80 million! This is Item #20 in the May 2 Sale. The sale continues on May 3. (I hope these links work! They work for me.)
These items that Sotheby's auctions are usually on display to the general public but this one seems to be restricted to "Sotheby's clients." (I'm not sure whom this includes, but I guess if I want to go have a look, I'll see whether being on their email list is enough.) The times are:
Fri, 27 Apr | 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Sat, 28 Apr | 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Sun, 29 Apr | 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Mon, 30 Apr | 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Tue, 1 May | 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Wed, 2 May | 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
