This is a VERY sad thread. How disrespectful so many commenters have been to the humanity of women. We are dimensional, not some background prop. I don’t blame her for having trepedations about revealing her intent to compete and expressing an aspect of her which celebrates her physical health and strength. Look at the sad way so many of you have replied.
Half the people in the world are female. It is wonderful that the Episopal Church has embraced that reality and recognizes that a priest with female experiences can bring a persepctive with which more women can identify and relate. This woman is a role model for anyone trying to combat limitations placed upon them by others in striving to realize their full potential.

The women should be dressed quietly, and their demeanour should be modest and serious. The adornment of a Christian woman is not a matter of an elaborate coiffure, expensive clothes or valuable jewellery, but the living of a good life. A woman should learn quietly and humbly. Personally, I dont allow women to teach, nor do I ever put them into positions of authority over menI believe their role is to be receptive. - 1 Tim 2
I guess I’ll go with the Apostle Paul & the Word of God.
FWIW, I would also be appalled at a male pastor taking up bodybuilding, which celebrates appearance and the flesh over health and good deeds.
Cheers!
