STAR TREK brings life Jim, but not as we know it, to London this October in the form of a convention featuring all five captains including 81-year-old William Shatner - of the long-running TV series, the first time the quintet has appeared on stage together.
Destination Star Trek London, as the live event is to be known, boldly goes to the Excel exhibition centre between the 19 and 21 October and is the first Star Trek convention in London for ten years. Its website launches today.
"We are going to make this really interactive," said Rob Nathan, one of the shows organisers.
"There are going to be stunt displays, we are going to recreate some sets and get some original sets. People will be able to sit on the Starship bridge with members of the cast.
"It's going to be an absolute pilgrimage for Star Trek fans."
Up to 15,000 Star Trek fans are expected to beam down to Destination Star Trek, which will feature plenty of other cast members from the five series, as well as the captains.
"The Star Trek fan base in the UK is one of the biggest in the world, and it has waited a long time for the convention to return, so we wanted to make sure we did it right," said Liz Kalodner of CBS Consumer Products, which owns the Star Trek TV franchise.
Those five captains are:
William Shatner, Captain Kirk in the original series starting back in 1966; English skipper Sir Patrick Stewart, who played Captain Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation from 198794; Avery Brooks, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's Commander Sisko between 1993 and 1999; Kate Mulgrew, Captain Janeway in Star Trek: Voyager from 1995 to 2001 and Scott Bakula, Captain Archer in Star Trek: Enterprise from 2001 to 05.
Tickets for Destination Star Trek London go on sale on 30 April.
Captain Pike! Oh, yeah. I remember when that aired. It was a two-part episode and I called my sister and said, “whatever happens in the rest of the world or in my life, I WILL be in front of my television for Part II next week.”
Now, we’re so spoiled with DVR, etc.
That was a great episode. They did, at least, reprise him in the latest movie.
“I blame Seven-Of-Nine. Resistance was futile.”
FWIW, her alleged resistance to her husband’s wishes GAVE us the Fraud.
... not including the salacious judge who decided that we all needed to hear about it.
Yeah, jeez, don't these Freepers know anything?
Seven of Nine ... a beautiful woman. the only reason I watch that tv show ... some forensic crap.
Then Captain Sulu is required, too.
Some Star Trek fans complained that the final episode of “Enterprise” was a holodeck simulation of Riker’s on the Enterprise-D.
They might as well have had Al step in and prepare Capt. Archer for his next leap.
Nice sentiment.
Any way I could be beamed there to join them?
I’d be able to swim and play tennis.
Ping
Thanks for posting a thread I can actually enjoy on Free Republic.
Captain April (although is a Commodore as he appears here) also sends his regrets
He’s dead, Jim.
Yeah, I watched “The Captains” not too long ago. It was surprisingly well done and I enjoyed it.
I think I’m probably in the minority, but I really liked “Enterprise”, definitely moreso than DS9, Voyager and even a bit more than a lot of the NG episodes, some of which I thought were just silly.
Been watching them lately on CBS’s site - most of the episodes are available, although they don’t make them easy to find.
There were a few dud episodes, but I find Enterprise to be far more watchable than most of the shows on network TV these days.
Capt Sulu and Excelsior are on assignment: circling Uranus looking for Klingons. And looking FABULOUS doing so ...
(sorry had to be said)
And Captain Spock, in ST II:TWoK.
He was just FABULOUS!
Geez, you beat me to the F word, LOL.
The original 60’s show and Next Generation are great. The follow ons after Next Gen didn’t interest me at all.
Jeffrey Hunter was a very handsome man with bright blue eyes. I remember his role opposite John Wayne in "The Searchers", and his portrayal of Jesus in "King of Kings." Didn't realize until years later that his 3rd wife was Emily McLaughlin, who played Nurse Jessie Brewer on General Hospital.
“The Cage” was used in the two-part “The Menagerie” in TOS. The 1988 version had some scenes not show in TOS, and some were in B&W because the original color prints were lost, IIRC.
