Word For The Day, Monday, 4/16/12
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
1. of little value or account; small; trifling: a picayune amount. 2. petty, carping, or prejudiced: I didn't want to seem picayune by criticizing. noun 3. (formerly, in Louisiana, Florida, etc.) a coin equal to half a Spanish real. 4. any small coin, as a five-cent piece. 5. Informal . an insignificant person or thing.
Etymology: 178090; < Provençal picaioun small copper coin (compare French picaillons ), derivative of an onomatopoetic base *pikk- beat, here referring to the coining of coppers
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....
A+++ and AFTER that question was posed and he evaded it, he had the temerity to state in his remarks to the President of Colombia that part of his job on these summits is to SCOUT VACAY spots to bring Michelle back to!! openly flaunting the fact that they are bankrolling their lifestyle on the backs of the taxpayers!
i pray that it is so! A+++
I’ve been using that as a brickbat against the leftists at TGG who were defending Rosens remarks.
(At least Ann Romney vacations on HER OWN DIME)
This word sounds like a parish in LA. Did you see my team beat Detroit at the Joe yesterday? First time we’ve beaten them there in the play-offs. There were pig piles(JR’s word) in almost all of the games yesterday except ours. Shanny will be bu-sy!
yeah but shea webber’s slap on the wrist for his headbashing into the glass in game one is kind of left as a festering sore, in the twitterverse. the feeling was that was mishandled. didn’t see it myself, haven’t watched any of the preds games, but i have seen internet memes develop about the webber incident.
Isn’t it funny how the left is so damn jealous of the Romney’s that they have to attack the fact that they have been successful? That Rosen woman is probably wealthy compared to many other liberal lesbians raising children without a partner since they broke up. But in my circles, most women want to stay home with their children and some can, some can’t. Unless they are professionals, most women I know would rather not work outside the home. This may be different for women you know, but it has been my experience.
LeTang was a complete jerk. Who does that to Kimmo, one of the true gentlemen of the game? I predict plenty of fines and well-deserved suspensions. And the coach didn’t prepare or control his team so I think his time should be limited. IOW, he’s a goner.
You know what else I can’t stand? Prissy “stars” who cheap shot or start fights and then run and hide and let their teammates finish them. I’m talking to you, CroMalkin!
Well you are right and it’s a CHOICE, but apparently if one chooses to stay home, the Left considers it an abrogation of all knowledge— economic, political etc. If you stay home you aren’t competent to opine on the issues of the day.
Moronbury thinks the only reason your team is tanking is because Malkin isn’t scoring. Can you tell him what is obvious to the rest of the world, that DEFENSE wins championships and without it they don’t stand a chance?
I would gladly argue that it was the right call since we were there, saw plenty of replays, and here’s what really happened. Z pushed Webs’ face into the glass first and tried knee on knee from the back, Webs turned and shoved him, Z ducked and Webs put his glove on his rt. shoulder and shoved him into the glass/boards from 1 foot away. Z crumpled like a Canuck and was chirping back at him the whole time after the ref came over to see what happened. There was no injury, there was previous provocation, and not nearly the action that was described on the net.
Also, Z was taking headshots at several players the next game and getting zero calls for it, blatant grabbing the helmet stuff and the refs just ignored it. He’s dirty and there’s no excuse for that from a skilled player. Vince Gill had the crowd chanting “Bertuzzi is a sissy” from the bandstage that night. He also had it on a tee shirt.
It would be nice if Malkin started scoring, but I have been saying since Friday that they should be studying old game film of the Devils and playing some sort of lockdown defense.
The Pens playing freewheeling is going to beat most teams in the league. But not this Flyers team. They have beat us at our own game and no one with the Pens seems to have recognized this.
Yes but the main idea was lost when the idiot said what she did - she was really bashing Ann Romney for being married to a wealthy man. Rosen used the comment about her not working to bash her for being “kept”. Her disgust at a happily married couple who have a loving relationship AND are successful was at the heart of her comment. Ann is stupid because she isn’t working.. apparently she forgot Ann has a degree from Harvard.
i didn’t realize ann had a degree from harvard, actually. yes, it was snottily said and that was clearly what she was insinuating.
Did you miss post #10? That is not a picayune mistake! LOL.
At least no one went after Steve Sullivan. We still love him here.
i’m so sorry!!! A+++ i have been obsessed with hockey and missed it! inexcusable of me!!
