google baba yaga (the deceased had mentioned it in the obit.) Tells you this guy was into the occult. Baba Yaga was from Slavic folklore. She is nowhere an object of worship. Most likely the name is his derisive nickname for some obnoxious elderly female relative.

Could be a reference to his ex-wife. Baba Yaga was a witch in the Slavic areas of the world.

If you are an American, and you know who baba yaga is, either your family is slavic, or you are into the occult. I bet the latter.

Or just somebody who knows how to google "baba yaga" and look in the wiki entry. I guess that is so beyond your intellectual capabilities that you can't imagine people being able to do it.

Or you have familiarity with Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition:
Number 9: Избушка на курьих ножках (Баба-Яга), The Hut on Fowl's Legs (Baba-Yagá))

no, i googled it. It would never occur to someone to use the term “Baba Yaga” unless they know who Baba Yaga supposedly was.

I have seen the name referred to in works of literature, from inference, she was a witch that ate babies, had a house that walked on feet and maybe had something to do with bears.
Usually she is mentioned by Russian characters referring to her as commonly know folklore.
What is the occult connection?
