Scientist hits climate change skepticism – UPI.com
EDINBURGH,Scotland,April 9 (UPI) –Environmentalists and climate scientists,facing public skepticism,are losing the debate on global warming,a U.S. scientist who first raised the issue says.
James Hansen,director of the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies,who issued warnings about man-made climate change as early as the 1980s,said public skepticism is increasing even in the face of growing scientific acceptance of the reality of global warming.
“There is remarkable inconsistency between the scientific story and public story,” Hansen said in Edinburgh,Scotland,where he will receive the Edinburgh Medal at the Edinburgh International Science Festival this week,The Daily Telegraph reported.
Hansen said those opposed to major social and economic changes needed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions were attempting to undermine the scientific evidence.
“The science has become stronger and stronger over the past five years while the public perception is has gone in completely the other direction. That is not an accident.
“There is a very concerted effort by people who would prefer to see business to continue as usual. They have been winning the public debate with the help of tremendous resources.”
Without a dramatic change in public opinion, Hansen said,he fears future generations will inherit a world where global warming is out of control.
“Our parents honestly did not know what the consequences of continued development and reliance on fossil fuels as an energy source,” he said. “We can no longer claim that,
as the science is now clear.”

For Hansen to admit that anthropogenic global warming is wrong would be for him to admit that he has spent his life on a series of wrong assumptions and mistakes.
It is almost impossible for an adult human to do so, absent catastrophic and life changing stress.
Yeah, those "tremendous resources" is called the TRUTH.

I think you have hit the crux of the issue here. The more married I am to a certain viewpoint, the harder it is to give it up. But I HAVE done it.

Every time Hansen opens his mouth I become more convinced he hasn’t a clue how science works. It isn’t a democracy. It isn’t a board meeting. It isn’t a party line. It isn’t a competitive sport. And it isn’t a head-to-head by funding machinery.
I have been deeply concerned that the guardians of our tax dollars have been neglectful in funding Hanson’s apparently personal AGW campaign under the guise of an official U.S. entity such as NASA at all much less as long as they have.
I believe NASA is also under the current alien government funding, and performing Muslim outreach. What in the “H” has that to do with the mission of NASA!?
Gore was a Vice President as you know.

Thanks for posting this. I remember when this hit FR. This is another piece of the puzzle. When complete, we will find that Global Warming never was about the environment. It was all about social and economic control.
All liberals and leftists think this way. Anyone who disagrees with is obviously a paid agent of the Koch Brothers or whomever. They have to think this way, or else they would have to debate ideas, which they can't.

What a liar. It's not about business as usual. It's about stopping the advance of a pernicious socialism masked as science. And the skeptics are winning, against the force of billions of dollars of investment on the part of western governments.
