So far, my garden is.......alive and is seeming to thrive. (Note to self: the next time I see a rack of seeds marked 'USDA Certified Organic'......just keep walking.) The Elberta peach tree I planted last year looks to be on track to produce close to a hundred peaches this season, Good Lord willing and the bugs leave the fruit alone. The Granny Smith tree is rebounding surprisingly well after a lousy 2011 (I attribute both to a healthy bee population, which was virtually non-existent last year). The blueberry and strawberry patches appear to be doing better than expected, too. The Iceberg, Romaine, and Redina lettuce (my first attempt) is going better than I'd hoped; all other veggies (straightneck bush squash, green beans, and tomatoes) all doing A-OK. I'm starting over with the bell peppers, though. Said USDA certified seeds were duds. Of course, 3,000 acres it ain't around here, either. LOL But I think I may put up a grape arbor.

My tomato plants are about a foot tall already and some have bloom sprouts. I planted all my seedlings about two weeks ago and they love the ground.
Has anyone ever harvested lettuce seed? I have two plants I decided to let go into the seed stage, and the pods are just starting to form.

Sounds like you have been busier than we have but in the last few days we have added another apple tree, three more blueberries, five raspberry canes, two seedless grapes (red and green)...and we expect the delivery ANY time now of another Chinese chestnut and three filberts (hazelnuts). Cabbage, broccoli, lettuce, Swiss shard, spinach, asparagus and kale are producing yummy stuff for our meals. Ohhh...and the red onions in my raised beds are popping up like crazy.
I have planted three hills of cucumber and my hubby is making me a good A-frame so they can climb this year. I have tomatoes started. This week will be adding compost and mulch and getting ready for a big family Easter celebration.
I also found this article on soil amendments this morning:

Thanks for this thread that gives me so many good ideas. ;-)
