In his most recent Shrugging Out Podcast http://www.box.com/shared/static/e9d6ba4b873d0a6794df.mp3 Pete Ferron rocks my world with his insightful commentary on the recent Tom Baugh essay Constitutional Quizzery http://www.starvingthemonkeys.com/articles/ConstitutionalQuizzery.html. Both the essay and commentary challenge the notion that what is happening with our runaway government today is contrary to the Constitution. It is a premise I find increasingly persuasive, and both the essay and commentary state articulately ideas that had been flitting around the edges of my thinking. In fact I no longer believe the US Constitution holds any promise in resolving the current crisis of growing fascism. The situation will not be fixed because it cannot be fixed until after the coming collapse, which I believe is inevitable. I hope in the aftermath we institute a system more like Switzerland.
A real eye opener for me was the refutation of civil militias as a potent mitigation of government tyranny through the citation of Article 2 Section 2:
"The President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States..."
Ferron argues that the principles of some of the founders, however, remain valid, of course. Instead of a frontal assault on a federal government whose powers are still growing, Baugh argues instead for a more patient strategy of waiting until the leviathan's power is sapped by the upcoming economic and social crash.
Petes analogy? In June of 1812, Napoleon invaded Russia with almost 500,000 men. The Russians tried to stop him from reaching Moscow, but they could not. They did, however, leave the capitol stripped of food and other supplies desperately needed by Napoleon's Grand Armee', which had spent itself battling its way into Moscow. Forced to retreat in the bitter cold of the Russian winter, by the time Napoleon's army left Russia, only 25,000 men were left.
Is this a better strategy given where we are?
Give the podcast a listen. I dare ya. And if my take on things is wrong, please let me know how I am wrong in a dispassionate way.
