Jimmy Carter supports same-sex ‘marriage’ as he launches his new Bible (Barf Alert)

ATLANTA, GEORGIA, March 20, 2012, (LifeSiteNews.com) – Former president Jimmy Carter has been strongly identified as a “Born Again” Christian and as a liberal Democrat for nearly five decades. He is once more blending those roles as he promotes “his” latest book, his own study Bible.

The NIV Lessons from Life Bible: Personal Reflections with Jimmy Carter contains the full text of the New International Version of the Bible and the former president’s prayers, reflections, and asides.

During his book tour to promote a study of the Scriptures, Carter mentioned he supports same-sex “marriage.”

President Carter told Paul Brandeis Raushenbush, senior religion editor of The Huffington Post:

Homosexuality was well known in the ancient world, well before Christ was born and Jesus never said a word about homosexuality. In all of his teachings about multiple things – he never said that gay people should be condemned. I personally think it is very fine for gay people to be married in civil ceremonies. (Emphasis added.)

However, he said he drew the line, “maybe arbitrarily, in requiring by law that churches must marry people.”

“If a church decides not to, then government laws shouldn’t require them to,” he said, adding his own church accepts “gay members on an equal basis.”

When Raushenbush pressed him about whether he believed the Bible is God’s word, Carter answered, “the basic principles of the Bible are taught by God, but written down by human beings deprived of modern day knowledge. So there is some fallibility in the writings of the Bible. But the basic principles are applicable to my life and I don’t find any conflict among them.”

“There are many verses in the Bible that you could interpret very rigidly,” Carter said, “and that makes you ultimately into a fundamentalist.”

“Fundamentalists,” he wrote in his 2005 book Our Endangered Values, tend “to demagogue emotional issues” and “are often angry and sometimes resort to verbal or even physical abuse against those who interfere with the implementation of their agenda.” Carter applied this term to figures as divergent as the Ayatollah Khomeini and Pope John Paul II, to atheist neoconservatives and his fellow Baptists.

He contended the “mandated subservience of women by Christian fundamentalists” contributes to the Islamic practice of female genital mutilation.

Carter wrote that he exchanged harsh words with the late Pope John Paul II during a state visit over what Carter classified as the Pope’s “perpetuation of the subservience of women.” He added, “there was more harshness when we turned to the subject of ‘liberation theology’.”

The former president, who has released recordings of the Sunday School classes he teaches and written previous books about the Bible, disassociated himself from the Southern Baptist Convention in 2000. He and former President Bill Clinton attempted to realign the Baptist faith in a more liberal direction by calling for a new Baptist convention in 2008. The formation of this new Baptist body, he wrote, constituted an “historic event for the Baptists in this country and perhaps for Christianity.”

Carter, whose single term in office was marred by turbulence at home and abroad, has denounced those who disagree with his political views in strident terms.

Pro-lifers, Carter wrote, “do not extend their concern to the baby who is born.” He instead suggested the nation support contraceptive sex education, taxpayer funding of international “family planning,” and embryonic stem cell research.

In addition to nuptial vows, Carter encouraged the military to end the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy in 2007, and in 2010, he told the website Big Think it was time to elect “a gay person” as president.

The new study Bible, published by Zondervan, is available from bookstores nationwide.

The Bible is so clear on homosexuality, I’ve always wondered how people who call themselves Christian can be in favor of gay marriage, how they can make that leap. Many times on Facebook, I’ll see somebody post some preachy image about how gay marriage is a right and anyone who disagrees is a horrible, hateful bigot...then in their next post, they post a prayer thread or something about God! It just amazes me. I guess they probably justify it in the same way Carter does.

I also find it interesting that Carter would talk about women’s rights. Years ago I read his wife’s autobiography. He was extremely inconsiderate toward her, expecting her to be submissive. There’s one part where he insists they move to a new home, even though Mrs. Carter opposed the move and was heartbroken over leaving her old home and loved ones. In the book she talks about the drive to the new home. She sobs in misery the whole time, while Jimmy cheerfully sings and whistles, totally oblivious or uncaring about his wife’s distress. Insisting on the move was one thing, but singing and grinning and whistling while she’s obviously heartbroken? That scene in the book has stuck with me all these years, what an absolute ass he was.

Zondervan tanked years ago. Half the “Evangelical” publishing houses these days won’t even wince at publishing outright heresy.

so jimmy is still toiling hard in the serpent’s vinyard. no surprise. he is certainly a loyal soldier for the evil one.

this is a sin of pride and idolatry so great, if true, that he must high in the circles of corruption.

carter is more evidence that the political power elite (both parties) has so clearly been working for evil and has been for many decades. and that the Lord is allowing them to destroy us as a nation. the Lord is teaching and testing.

strangely the evil behavior of our politicians (e.g., romney, reid, pelosi, obama, boehner, cantor, etc) is a comfort as i realize i have no control, other than to practice virtue as an individual conservative. to continue to my job for my family. to do the right thing. to advance Liberty whenever and in whatever small way i can and let His will be done.

I just want to check on something that gets overlooked quite a bit:

1. If one man shoots his genetic material into another man’s rectum, gestation still does not occur.

and

2. If one woman bumps her genetals against another woman’s genetalia, or anything other than another man’s penis for that matter, no gestation occurs.

Are this two observations still operative as facts? Biblically speaking, how does Jimmy Peanut see this as fitting into God’s plan? That may be the wrong question.

How do these observation fit into Jimmy Carter’s plan, given that Jimmy’s written himself a new Bible?

Heretic.

"It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit and they are life." (John 6:63)

"He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation, but is passed from dead unto life. (John 5:24)

It's the words, not the basic principles.

Jimmy Carter doesn't know that Jesus Christ is God. It was the preincarnate Jesus Christ who spoke to Moses:

(1) And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, ... (13) If a man lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them. (Leviticus 20)

We know this because "no man has seen God (the Father) at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him" (John 1:18). Jesus Christ "is the image of the invisible God" (Colosians 1:18). Moses saw Jesus Christ in Exodus 33:23-23. It was Jesus Christ the LORD who spake all these words to Moses.

If, as we believe, the WHOLE Bible is the word of God, Jesus DID say quite a lot about homosexuality and a lot of other things.

And there is part of the problem.

I’ll bet Jimmy reads a “Red Letter Bible.” Somehow the words of Jesus are given greater emphasis than the rest of Scripture. Never mind that the entirety of Scripture is red letters.

Yup, the RED letter edition is one of the worst ideas to come out of publishing. It makes part of the Bible seem more important than others, when the whole Bible is the Word.

Thank you, I was trying to remember where that was in the Bible.

Shows I need to read it a little more often.

It is sad to remember when the NIV was a respected translation. And then the translation veered further and further astray...

But when you have a Jimmy Carter Butt-plug Study Bible, you’ve REALLY gone where no man ought to want to go!

Apparently Jimmy never taught Leviticus in his class. I'd sure be interested in how he would interpret:

Carter probably puts himself in the category of wanting to believe what he wants to believe. That is the sign of a false prophet.

Harley, shame on you. You put Leviticus in RED LETTERS. Everybody knows that those are reserved for the words of Jesus...

(I pray you know I was being sarcastic)
