I’m not saying Twitter is wonderful, just that I understand what it is. I can’t even begin to figure out how to use Facebook.....or why people do.
What can people do with Facebook that they can’t with an “old-fashioned”. Web site?

I can see the utility of Facebook. For instance, a couple people I know are in bands. While a few of them jave their own individual FB profile, they also use it for the bands to make announcements about play dates/places, that sort of thing.
So in terms of a general media/application type approach, it has a lot of value.
Truly, though, if FB ever really wants to make some bucks, all they have to do is start charging people for posting new baby pictures. Or stupid wedding videos!

Hey, look at Runoff. That was HTML way before it ever existed.
And not only did UNIX win but HP killed OSF/1 which was by far the best flavor of UNIX around (and I’ve used all the others).
Step one is unfriend/ unlike the sources of the stuff that irritates you. You don’t get anything on your FB feed you didn’t sign up for.
It’s not that simple when it comes to relatives.
They don’t get notified when you unfriend them. Of course eventually they’ll notice they don’t see anything from you. Can block them, then they still see stuff from you but you don’t have to look at their junk.
There is an app called the Unfriend Finder - which tells you when someone un-friends you.
Yeah there’s a few tools for that if somebody is curious. But FB doesn’t tell them. Really anybody that paranoid you probably don’t want to be their friend anyway.
I have it and it’s a lot of fun. It also includes a list of ‘Pending’ Friend requests...something else that FB will not tell you.
I use Social Fixer which fixes a lot of the annoying UI (like automatically popping to Most Recent, doing some older posts clicks), it has that as a feature but I never bother, I’ve always let people meander in and out of my life without paying overly much attention.
