There are over 300 million people in America. Barack Obama attracted nearly 70 million votes in 2008. HBO has almost 30 million subscribers. And yet...
Less than 10% of those subscribers bothered to tune into one of the most hyped movies in the history of television. Glitzy, glamorous premieres, all kinds of free publicity through the cable news outlets, controversy galore, and yet "Pawn Stars" kicked its ass.
Washington Post:
One massive marketing and GOP-undies-bunching campaign later, the unveiling of HBOs Sarah Palin flick, Game Change, attracted 2.123 million viewers Saturday night at 9. HBO says Game Change brought in the biggest original-movie opening crowd in about eight years.
To put the audience in perspective, thats slightly fewer people than sat down the next afternoon at 2 to watch a rerun episode of Historys Pawn Stars (2.129 million viewers).
Over the course of the weekend, multiple telecasts of Game Change which chronicles the decision of Republican Sen. John McCains campaign to campaign with the little-known Alaskan governor as his presidential running mate averaged a cumulative 3.6 million viewers. Thats slightly more than half the number of people who watched an original episode of Historys Pawn Stars last Monday night at 10.

What’s this Historys Pawn shops show about?
I cancelled HBO two years ago and will never have it on my TV or in my house again.
Pawn Stars rocks, that’s why.
I’m always shocked what walks into that store. The personal favorite being the Russian ICBM launch key.
Plus, the Old Man rocks. He’s the greatest!
Hey HBO... I’ve never watched Pawn Stars, but I didn’t even know you were airing “game change.” No biggie, wouldn’t have watched it or even bothered to have DVR’d it had I known it was on. HBO, try producing something I’d like to watch...
WHERE THE H3LL ARE THEY LOCATED!!!!!!!!!!
No matter what somebody brings in, they always have a buddy just down the street that can come in and authenticate it! No offense to anybody, but the times I've been in Vegas most of the people I've met were either tourists, hustlers, call girls, or burn outs. The Pawn guys must be located in the smartest neighborhood in Vegas!
Thanks ak267.
Chumlee.
Love pawn stars. Great show.
Pawn Stars has Chumlee.
Chumlee makes the show.
I wonder how many watched "The Undefeated?"
I know I did.
Yes. Pawn Stars rocks! We watch it on Hulu.
Yah, that one rocked - it was even better when they turned out NOT to be for ICBMs but rather the space program (which meant that they had probably been used).
The last time SHMBO and I went to Vegas we went to Gold and Silver - it was somehow comforting to see (alongside all the cool stuff) the usual clapped-out power tools you find in any hock shop...
We-e-e-ell...not really - they're on Las Vegas Blvd, about halfway between the Strip and Glitter Gulch, typical hock-shop-looking neighborhood.
Here’s something I don’t understand about the people that make shows like this... Who do they think will want to watch it?
So you do a hatchet job on Palin... Well... The people that -like- Palin won’t bother with it, and the people that -don’t like- Palin won’t be interested enough to watch a show all about her.
Who do they think will be interested enough to watch?
