Thank you for the first and (so far) only constructive comment. I’ll check those out.

All I can say about some of the other comments is that marriage obviously means little to some. I’m not thrilled about this, but I love my wife a helluva lot more than I love Texas.

I'd write off the following areas as being too likely to result in you hitting the long peddle in your car and slamming into someone: Bay area, Sacramento area, anything in the City of San Diego, Los Angeles, Santa Monica, Long Beach, etc. Also the San Fernando Valley. I'd also avoid the cities of Riverside and San Bernardino.

Myself, I've lived in the San Gabriel Valley for a great part of my life - we're slowly being boxed in by the liberals who've taken Pasadena and Claremont, but the cities inbetween are for the most part reasonable. Most of the Central Valley upstate is ok, just in a horrible economic depression.

Orange County is so-so - costs are enough that I'd consider moving just about anywhere else first. And I hate to say it, but same goes for most of North County of San Diego.

Alas, if she's wanting to avoid ‘redneck mentality’ it does cut down options. Valencia/Saugus/Canyon Country are borderline. The sane areas of Riverside County are redneck central, same with quite a bit of the central valley. Victorville region would probably also be borderline.

All in all, based on your comments, your best bets are: eastern San Gabriel Valley, Orange County, Canyon Country, Hidden Hills/Reseda.

Dude, gay men walk around naked and copulate in public in San Fransicko.

The rest of Kalipornia is not much better.

BTW, I hope you don’t need a job if you go there.

I live in the Los Gatos-Saratoga-Campbell area. Surrounded by mountains, half an hour from the beach. Not as rabidly leftist as SF, LA, or Santa Cruz. Nice weather, unless you live for rain and chilliness, like I do. I am only still here for my parents’ sake, when I moved back from GA, I wanted to go to Washington. I just consider myself still an honorary Georgian politically, since there is no hope for any conservative until the state finally collapses.

Does this work in reverse? Would your wife follow YOU to hell and back?

BEG her to reconsider! Choosing between Texas vs Cesspoolifornication ...
is laughable!

DONT DO IT!

It’s not cold in Oregon or Washington btw, unless you’re up in elevation.

They call it the left coast for a reason.

Will she consider Wyomng or Montanta or Idaho? They are every bit as beautiful as the left coast states, and IMO more so! If you’re TRULY looking for some semblance of sanity!

GOOD LUCK!

"Sigh...to make a long story short, my wife has decided that she's getting out of Texas, with or without me.

She's listed California, Oregon and Washington as possible places where she'd like to relocate. Well, I'm allergic to the cold, so that leaves California.

Any input on possible locations in California where she can "Escape the redneck mentality" and I can still live around semi-sane individuals.

Sorry, but you are a fool. You'll make the the move, she still won't be happy, and she'll leave you for someone whom she thinks is more 'refined'.

"Redneck mentality" vs. "Semi-sane individuals"?! You've framed the arguement right there, and haven't even noticed.

Save yourself the upheaveal, pain, money and time. Gently take her by the shoulders, point her towards California, and plant your boot in her ass.

I know this sounds harsh, but its the truth. I've seen this play out too many times, and it always ends the same way.

If you go ahead with this; I expect you to remember this post, and come back and tell me you wished you'd followed my advice.

I've lived in CA for most of my life. The exception being for few years in 78-84 . North County in San Duego is great but expensive (you can try Poway for cheaper areas) . I als like Placer County in the Sacramento area. When we lived ther is was still fairly conservative and is where Tom McClintock's district is.

Good luck. I hate to pile on but we are another family looing to get out of CA to retire. The taxes are going to kill you!

Well, in light of what California has become, its own self-flagellating behavior, unwillingness to do anything about its illegals, spending, taxes or budget, how in the hell would you expect anything constructive?

If I were you I’d be examining why the heck she wants to get out, loveofmylife or not. This kind of ultimatum isn’t rational, unless there is more than meets the eye.
