Somehow I find it hard to believe he drank gasoline....

I know....call me a skeptic......

Perhaps he had already had a LOT of other stuff to drink before that and was no longer in the proper state of mind to safely ascertain the nature of his final libation.

In my youthful stupidity I have been way way past three sheets to the wind.....and never was so drunk that my state of mind was so off I could drink gasoline.....of course I'm not from north Carolina either !!!

Either way it's a horrible way to go....
