Democrats quick to use quote to accuse Romney of being out of touch By Mark Russell, Newser Staff
(Newser) Mitt Romney's attempts to show he's just a regular guy continue to go awry. At an appearance at the Daytona 500 yesterday (which was rained out for the first time in history), Romney was asked by an AP reporter if he follows NASCAR. "Not as closely as some of the most ardent fans. But I have some great friends who are NASCAR team owners," he replied.
No big surprise that Democrats were quick to use the sound bite to paint Romney as out of touch with regular voters because of his extreme wealth, reports CBS News. "I don't know people who fish but I know people who own yachts," joked one Democratic Party operative on Twitter. The remark comes just a few days after a flub in Michigan, where he noted his wife drives "a couple of Cadillacs."

We are electing a President.
Wealth is not a criteria to be president. But I think it is an indicator of their ability to handle money. We learned that Mr. Obama can’t handle his own money and he can’t handle the American taxpayers money either. Of course we can’t be sure of Romney’s handling of taxpayers money either, but I have a better feeling about Romney’s ability over Obama’s.

I am going to give Romney a pass on this one. No he is not like me, but even I know one person who is part owner in a Nascar team. No big deal. I will not support Romney ever, but I am not going to bash him at this level. No thanks.

I despise Mitt, but I thought the criticism of his “cadillac” comment was unfair.
However, this one is a pre-packaged, 5-star Obama add.
What next, “I don’t really follow the NFL that closely, but I’m friends with many of the owners.”
or
“I’ve never served in the military, but I own tens of millions of dollars worth of stock in defense contractors”.

I have some great friends who are NASCAR team owners,... but I wouldn't want my daughter dating one of them.

Interesting how so many immediately pounce on any thing Romney has to say that is perceived as not being in touch with the real world. Yet we have Moochelle spending the President's Day weekend in Aspen, after returning from an extended stay in Hawaii just a few weeks earlier. There are 48 million on food stamps in this country, I saw no criticism of her (except here @ FR) ... no where in the media was she portrayed as insensitive or out of touch.

Agreed, that's a standard Michigan campaign statement.

What every Republican supporting Romney should also now be asking themselves:
Has Romney windsurfed and does anyone have photos of it?

That at least explains why gaffe-a-minute, zero discipline Romney is getting bashed here @FR.
Romney is unelectable.
This stuff has handed the election to Obama:
I like to fire people.
I don't care about poor people

Oh my, Romney buds around with NASCAR owners as opposed to Obama’s friendship with Wright, Farrakhan, Ayers, etc.
If Romney is smart he would crucify the Dummycrats on that. Somewhere along the lines of “Damn straight I have NASCAR owners as friends. They are job creators, no how to make a dollar and pro American UNLIKE Rev. Wright, Louis Farrakhan and Ayers. I'm damn proud of my friendships and do not have to throw them under the bus.”

I guess Romney is targeting the NASCAR owners’ vote.
I’m sure that’ll tip the count in his favor.
