Her acting is always the same - she cries and her nose gets red. That's it. Her movies are only useful to the suicidal who desire to be bored to death.
I wouldn’t go that far. I think she’s a smart woman with a lot of craft, intelligence, humor. But she does have a certain sameness about her and also a certain tendency to over act.
I remember way, way back in the 1979 time frame. I asked an older co-worker if he’d seen Kramer vs. Kramer. He said he hadn’t but that it was a notable first as it was the first time Streep got to play herself - i.e. a witch.
I kinda like her but I can see the point of those that don’t.
As Pauline Kael used to say: she’s an android, not a human being. And if I want to watch an impressionist, I’ll go over to You Tube and watch Frank Gorshin. She has always been the most overrated actress in America. She does accents because there is no “there” there - and, sometimes, in interviews, she herself has confessed this.
