Ridding my life of Google. Does anyone have suggestions for search engines that combine... - neutral or conservative oriented results - doesn't track personal info, either on a personal or aggragated level - performance - fast, relevant, current, etc - monetization (banner ads, etc) directed towards conservative owners, conservative causes, conservative politicos, etc etc etc
I’ve been trying this out...
Its creepy the way were being tracked...
Check out the story about the teenage girl who shopped at Target and used their savings card.
It turns out she was Pregnant and their computers figured it out by the vitamins she was buying. They started sending her advertisements for baby clothes and other baby products.
The Dad saw this and got very angry and complained to the local store manager. A few weeks later he had to apologize.
I have nothing to hide, but my business is my business. Best to keep a small footprint. Of course by posting on FR we are being tracked to a certain degree.
I ditched my Android and went back to Blackberry. I ditched Chrome for Opera. I use Bing for maps and Ixquick for searches.
The only Google I use for anything at all is Youtube.
I love your movie.

I have a movie?
Ping for later.

I just googled Obviously Google does much evil by my reckoning.
I got exactly one result this page.
Actually, I find Google quite useful for finding stuff of mine that has long since fallen off the first page of pings.
Yes, that story was a hoot. I was particularly amused by Target's response to customer ire: they learned the value of camo, as one Targeter explained:
With the pregnancy products, though, we learned that some women react badly, the executive said. Then we started mixing in all these ads for things we knew pregnant women would never buy, so the baby ads looked random. Wed put an ad for a lawn mower next to diapers. Wed put a coupon for wineglasses next to infant clothes. That way, it looked like all the products were chosen by chance.
To be fair, however, this was not Google. This was Target diligently mining their own sales data.
No, I’m afraid I don’t. I like the site because it is a straightforward, no bells-and-whistles search engine.
I have to say, on first tests the DuckDukeGo search engine is pretty tight, reminding me of those earlier days before Google, when learning about Search Engine Optimization and the trying to explain what came to be called “cloud computing” to blank faces.
ixquick or qrobe.it
192.168.0.0 is the Class C private network and “shouldn’t” be visible to the public internet. The address of the connection to the ISP would be the only thing of value, I would think.
I use ixquick. Its usually good enough for me.
cuts out all the BS that I don’t want to see.
Do you know anything more about ixquick? Who’s behind it? Like if all conservatives, independents, and assorted other thinking people stopped using Google and started using ixquick, would money just flow to a different group of libtards?
