Word For The Day, Thursday, February 23, 2012 - ad rem
dictionaries ad nauseam | 23 February 2012 | Thursday's sub

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

ad rem \ad REM\ , adverb
1. Without digressing; in a straightforward manner.
adjective
1. Relevant; pertinent.

Example sentences:
I am sure these things are not ad rem. Some persons think, my lord, it is very hard these men should be forced against their consciences from the church.
-- Richard Baxter, The Practical Works of Richard Baxter

The letter seems free of formulae, which suggests it was composed specifically ad rem.
-- Roger Rees, Layers of Loyalty in Latin Panegyric

Etymology:
Ad rem is a useful Latin phrase that literally means "at thing" from the roots ad and rēs.

The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

IF he sat and listened to everything Newt was saying he would agree.....he would never listen to it though. Never saw such partisans as those two. Even I am not that bad.

There are republicans who can’t get past Newt’s baggage, so it’s hard to blame partisanship.

I thought I was one of those pubbies who couldn’t get past Newt’s baggage, but it happened. Desperation will do odd things.

well my hope is that desperation will drive all republicans with a conscience to vote for ABO, that is WHOEVER is the republican nominee. everyone needs to get over their sqeamishness and biases once there is a nominee.

this comment was hilarious:

I keep waiting for a TV anchor to be assaulted in manner that inspires me to write a song, but since Rather; it's been a cold spell

“Methamatics” is how you figure out the ingredients in your home drug lab. ;-)

It is 76 and cloudy, but it is going to be seasonable tomorrow-back down into the 60’s.

If a candidate would speak ad rem
Instead of being oh-so-polite
About gas prices and drilling
The sheeple would be up all night

Worrying if gas lines will begin
At their nearest gas station
Even if they don’t remember how
Wretched was the Carter nation

But for those of us who do recall
The charted misery index and such
Obama is just as clueless as Carter
And as hopelessly out of touch

The last time I was asked about ashes on my forehead on Ash Wednesday was when MrT5 was stationed in city of evil II-SF California, which was not surprising. There are so many Catholics around here that I can easily imagine someone asking a person with a clean forehead where their ashes are. I don’t wash mine off till bedtime, work or no work.
