In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
ad rem \ad REM\ , adverb
1. Without digressing; in a straightforward manner.
adjective
1. Relevant; pertinent.
Example sentences:

The letter seems free of formulae, which suggests it was composed specifically ad rem.
-- Roger Rees, Layers of Loyalty in Latin Panegyric
Etymology:
Ad rem is a useful Latin phrase that literally means "at thing" from the roots ad and rēs.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

Yes. We’ve had practically no winter this year at all, yet I managed to slip on the ice a month ago and am still feeling the effects of it. I wrecked both knees (strained ligaments) and they are still bothering me. So, I’ll take a pass on snow and ice, thank you very much!
that is so simply perfect : )
good for you! we have had no winter either. it’s going to be 70 degs today in DC/northern VA burbs.
Thank you, my dear.
xshub is in Las Vegas for biz and got ashes there yesterday. he was asked quite a number of times if he knew that he had a black mark on his forehead, what it was for, etc. Holy cow, do they not have any Catholics in LV [that’s clearly not true, bc he said the church he went to was enormous and PACKED for ash wednesday services]. But it is just staggeringly RUDE the way he was asked these things. He’s staying at the Four Seasons so this isn’t local yokels pulling this. He said one woman at the hotel wearing a BYU sweatshirt, so, clearly Mormon, asked what it was for. He said It’s Ash Wednesday. i don’t know if they are so wrapped up in their own freakish little rituals/beliefs that they are totally uniformed about what other faith traditions are or what. but i have never lived anywhere where there weren’t a substantial number of Catholics, so it just took my breath away hearing the remarks he got.
As you get more children, over time, it seems a straightforward solution to the space problem is to ad rem.
But later, when they move out, you can’t so easily subrem without finding another tenant.
yinz thinking of taking in boarders? ; )
