Lent approaches, time to remember and indulge!
Oh, come on! There has always been fatty, greasy, delicious food. I’ve eaten a pile of Tommy’s chile cheese fries quite a few times and am still on the thin side.
I am so sick of the food police. I understand that obesity is a problem in this country, but it sure isn’t because of delicious offerings at places like Tommy’s. People over induldge and don’t exercise. It’s a choice...and I don’t want to have my choices taken away.
If you haven’t eaten at the Tommy’s on Beverly and Rampart, then you really haven’t truly eaten at Tommy’s!
Agreed, people don’t get as much exercise as they used to but the food itself is fine.
Here in the north, fatty, starchy foods were preferred for working in the cold winter.
I’ve known people who plan entire road trips around their favorite restaurants along the way! Hey, ya gotta eat somewhere!
Anyone ever eat at that Chinese buffet joint down in Salt Lake City? I can’t really gauge how good the food was, but biting the heads off those baby octopi was a kick.
Right. I just remember having to get off the FWY at Alhambra and make a couple of turns. And YES! 2AM!! I met a couple movie stars standing in line like the rest of us. I was like 18 at the time visiting LA. Absolutely floored me. Can’t think of their names but their faces I remember.
This is not funny. It is an ugly tragedy.
The First Lady agrees with you! We must all follow her food dictates for healthful eating and encourage unquestioning obedience from the government!
Stand up, citizen, and join us in our huzzahs for her healthy eating initiatives! She will grace us with her presence as soon as she can get out of her chair...
Haha, actually I’ve eaten at both (honest).
I have many times. Good burgers. World famous Pastrami sandwiches in L.A. area is “The Hat”. Very good and they too have chili burgers.
Yes, I remember that well. Back in the mid- to late-80's when I was in college. I used to eat two of those burgers if I was really hungry.
Also, the original did not serve chili fries at that time, only chips in a bag, IIRC.
I also went to the one in Eagle Rock (no longer there). I've been to the one in Pasadena, but it's atmosphere more like a generic fast-food joint (still the same food, fortunately).
That is the ONLY Tommy burgers!!!!
I used to eat three squares a day there when I was young, and now every time I even get in the vicinity of LA, I go right there, no matter how far out of the way it is.
It is still awesome, but not as awesome as before Tommy died. After that they added unnecessary things like fries and stuff to the menu.
I remember seeing lines around the block at 3am many times. Somethings gotta be said for a place that is open 24/7, and always has a crowd.
I put a couple of tommy burgers in the back seat of the car at the beginning of a drive back to Reno once when I was a kid. 7 hours in a car did not do them any favors, lol.
ARE U KIDDING ME?? There’s one here on Hollywood Blvd where I go to every 2 weeks LOL, now that you mentioned it. Went to Universal City Walk a few weeks back with my GF and we ate there too.
I love the chili dogs at Pat’s Drive Inn (I added the extra n) in Tucson.
Yes, but I don’t like their chili and the burgers are ordinary. I prefer In-Out or the roach coach by the name of GrillemAll a heavy metal burger truck with some of the best burgers in town. They won the first Food TV Great Food Truck Race. I chase them down when I want a good burger. Im a little crazy so I get the Dee Snider or the Blue Cheer. I usually get an order of Pom Frittes with Truffle oil as well but the BH-100s are good too.
The original, Beverly and Rampart. 2AM. Sigh.....
Yep, 2am in the rain, half lit all the way from Manhattan
beach in a ‘vette with the top down. Good Lord, that was
45 years ago. My how the time flies.
Oh boy, time flies!
Used to go there 60 years ago!
