The wind power industry is predicting massive layoffs and stalled or abandoned projects after a deal to renew a tax credit failed Thursday in Washington.
The move is expected to have major ramifications in states such as Illinois, where 13,892 megawatts of planned wind projects enough to power 3.3 million homes per year are seeking to be connected to the electric grid. Many of those projects will be abandoned or significantly delayed without federal subsidies.
The state is home to more than 150 companies that support the wind industry. At least 67 of those make turbines or components for wind farms. Chicago is the U.S. headquarters to more than a dozen major wind companies that wanted to take advantage of powerful Midwestern winds.
Wind power is a dud, I cannot believe environmentals support it, they are not good for the enviornment, effect weather, are killing off entire bat species and killing lots and lots of birds.
Window power is a no go.
I read somewhere that if we covered the entire state of Nevada in solar panels we could power the entire US pollution free, that is what I’d like to see us do.
We need to innovate on energy, but the pursuit must not be subsidized with taxpayer money.
The innovation IS happening OUTSIDE of govt intervention.
Fracking nat gas boom.
Soon you’ll see vehicle fleets switching over.
It’s about half the equivalent cost of diesel right now, and probably that ratio improves over the next several years.
We have coal and gas for generations. Green energy is a scam like the global warming scam it was proposed to solve.
Area 51 might have a problem with that.
Throughout the last century, basic R&D has been subsidized by society (or taxpayers if you prefer). I can only dream that I live long enough to see the US convert to a fusion power economy, and give the Hugo Chavezes of the world a big middle finger (in other words it’s a positive strategic and economic development that would unequivocally benefit every American citizen via cheaper power, better energy security and less foreign entanglements, and as such should and does receive taxpayer support).
What should not be supported by taxpayers are particular companies and industries which kickback money to the politicians in charge (Solyndra, LightSquared, etc.) while trying to violate basic laws of physics and/or economics with their offerings.
“I read somewhere that if we covered the entire state of Nevada in solar panels we could power the entire US pollution free, that is what Id like to see us do.”
Probably read that in a science fiction book.
Guess we could use candles at night. Or maybe whale oil lanterns? Wind and solar are BS. Solar as a supplement and remote monitoring stations. Nuke and natural gas all the way!!!!
Not to mention the birds and the bats. ;^)
I think if they put dynamos, turbines in Chicagoprison cells for all of the amigos of the Chicago Politicians in prison, hook them up to a bicycle sprocket, they could make electricity for all of the rest, and for every kilowatt of power they produce we could reduce their sentence by 1 day. Sounds efficient.
It takes massive amounts of liberal arts talent to achieve the virtually 100% fail rate of the Obamaloon and his clown show.
I really really want to be on the jury when the trials of he ahd his felon-tax evading-idiot cohorts begin after CW-II.
If an industry can’t make it in the private sector—why should the US Government pay for it? There are cheaper and better ways to generate power.
OK. I’ve posted this serveral times and yet have had someone tell me different.
I live in Bloomington. I work in Lagrange, GA. Everytime I come home I fly over the Champaign to Bloomington area. I’ll drive on I74 to Peoria. So in short, I’m looking at just about all of the hellatious eye sores of wind mills that blot the landscape there.
I’m told that the farmers there are paid $5000 per year to allow these erections on their property. They’re tall noisy structures.
HERE’S THE DEAL. EACH AND EVERY TIME I COME HOME, EVERY WINDMILL, PROBABLY WELL OVER 100, ARE ROTATING. THERE’S NO CLOUD IN THE SKY. NO WIND, AND YET THESE PROPS ARE ROTATING.
I SAY BS!!!
There is no way just 200 feet from the ground there is a Kitty Hawk style wind tunnel going through the heartland 24/7.
I say this is BS. As long as the blades are rotating the federal dollars will be coming.
ONLY NEWT SEES THROUGH THIS CRAP.
I have often driven by a virtual forest of windmills in southwestern Minnesota (Highway 23 near Holland, MN) that stretches from horizon to horizon. On many occasions I have seen ALL of these hundreds of windmills idle and others times just a few turning slowly and probably not generating much if any electricity. Only rarely did I see all of them turning at once.
[ enough to power 3.3 million homes per year ]
Yeah when the wind is blowing.. when its not.. ZIP..
I wonder if 3.3 million is a bit optimistic?.. maybe even a lie?
Already been invented!!!!!!
We should end subsidies for big oil too while we’re at it!
Hey, Bimbo-boxer and Putrid-Pelosi are rumored to have supported a mission to the sun —— because we could always land at night.
Who will dismantle those eye sores once the governmental cash cow stops flowing into the solar companies?
