CHEYENNE - Linda Clark was devastated Saturday afternoon when she and her husband returned from the grocery store to find two pit bulls attacking their Shetland pony, Spirit.
The couple was putting away their things when a neighbor came knocking at the door to report that Spirit was down and the dogs were tearing away at her.
Lindas daughter-in-law, Teresa Clark, said Jeff Clark immediately ran outside with the first thing he could find, a pellet gun. He fired toward the dogs and they ran off, but Spirit was already dead.
Linda Clark, an avid horse rescuer, took Spirit in when she was just a year old as a rescue animal.
"These are her babies. She saves horses that are going to go to slaughter," Teresa Clark said. "Shes had this pony forever."
She added that the entire family is beside themselves over the incident because Spirit was locked in a pen and couldn't defend herself.
That could have been my son, Teresa Clark said. That could have been someone elses son or daughter.
Laramie County Sheriffs Department Capt. Rich Hillegas ... said the pony had several bite and tear marks on her body and that the dogs the deputies captured had blood on them. He said deputies also spoke with a person who said her two pit bulls had jumped a 6-foot fence and escaped from her yard.

Canine jihadists.
These dogs are bred to be killers. They do not deserve to be abused but they do not belong on this planet.
“He said deputies also spoke with a person who said her two pit bulls had jumped a 6-foot fence and escaped from her yard.”
I don’t think a pit bull can jump a 6 foot fence. Maybe a 6 foot “long” fence...
Maybe it can chew through it.
I agree. Someone told me they’re illegal in England.
I saw a teacup Yorkshire Terrier maul a Clydesdale to death last week but did THAT ever make the news? No.
Folks, it’s not the breed, it’s the way they’re raised.
Until you’ve seen, as I have, a Chihuahua - a puppy no less - break the neck of a small child, or a Toy Poodle rip the legs off a grown man, you cannot possibly understand.
How bout shooting all the pit bulls on site instead of the wolves?
Link?

Haha, you kid, but I’ve known some mean small breeds.
Many chihuahuas would kill a man if they were big enough.
Dogs can actually leap pretty high, when they are motivated.
The dogs wouldn’t have to jump over a fence, just high enough that they can use their front legs to hang with and their back legs to climb the fence.
It’s plausible.
LOL, If we are going to go there, what about cats?
I like cats, and have owned and studied them for countless hours, the more I learned about them, the more I thanked God that they are tiny compared to us.
yeah right
Ha ha. Laugh now, my friends. Laugh away. But you won’t find it so funny when you look down and find both your legs and entire midsection trapped in the bloody, bone-brushing jaws of a Dandie Dinmont Terrier. Let’s just say you’ve all been warned.
My mother-in-law used to have a terrier-mix (pound puppy) that was a medium largish dog (60 lbs?) that could CLIMB a 4 foot chaiin link fence to visit his girlfriend next door. Despite being neutered :)
A six-foot chainlink fence is no problem for a pit bull. I watched a neighbor easily train his to scale one in no time at all.
Check out this video: Pitbull Scaling a 12 Foot Fence
Why would a person have a fence and train his pet to go OVER it?
Just askin’...

C’mon. Both are a factor with breed disposition being a major factor.
