It is very interesting how judging works. The dog that won Eukanuba Championship (2nd after Westminister in the USA in prestige), a Black Standard Poodle nicknamed London (Ch Jasset’s Satisfaction) was only BOS in the Standard Poodle competition. In the Non-Sporting group, where Standard Poodles compete, the winning Standard Poodle (a female) wasn’t a group finalist. Non-Sporting was won by a Dalmatian, which I am sure pleases most fire departments around the country... But disappoints us Standard Poodle fans
Who do you think will be in the final group?
“Eukanuba Championship (2nd after Westminister in the USA in prestige)”
Are you really serious? This show didn’t exist 20 years ago, when I was more into dogs. Now they call it a “National Champ.” which doesn’t even make any sense in the AKC - there is no such thing as a single show which confers “National Champion” on any dog. That always struck me as weird. Seems to me they created this thing just for TV - no? If so, it seems to me that’s the main reason it would have any prestige.
I’m confused: why would a poodle be in the NON-sporting class? Were they not bred as hunting dogs, and that silly hairdo an homage to keeping those parts warm in the cold weather while working?
