ITV Studios America and HDFILMS announced plans for a reimagining of Gerry and Sylvia Anderson's famed franchise of the 1970s, then called Space: 1999. The news comes months after Fox and producer Seth MacFarlane announced they would be reviving Cosmos: A Space Time Odyssey, a 1980s miniseries from Carl Sagan. "Science fiction is a powerful format capable of visualizing the human condition in thought-provoking ways," said HDFilms president Jace Hall, who will spearhead the effort and serve as an executive producer. The project is in the development phase and has yet to be shopped to networks.

Barbara Bain's getting a bit long in the tooth to reprise her role...

Yes!
I’d rather see a remake of U.F.O. (The one with SHADO).

"Science fiction is a powerful format capable of visualizing the human condition in thought-provoking ways,"You'd think if it were such a "powerful format" they could come up with something NEW, for heavens' sake.

Space: 1999 and Cosmos were two of my favorite series when I was a kid. I would have liked an Airwolf revival, but the failure of Knight Rider put that in the ground.
My expectations on this are very high. They will need more than flashy space scenes. Space:1999 will have to do at least as good as Battlestar Galactica on SyFy.

A block of wood could reprise her role. She was weak in MI and totally inert in 1999.

They should do a series on the H. Beam Piper, Terro-Human Future History. Since his work is now largely public domain it won't cost much. But then again he was conservative, the villains are almost always government bureaucrats and do gooders and the heroes solve problems by killing the bad guys. The libs run Hollywood aren't likely to embrace that sort of storyline, but audiences sure as heck would.

I was never much of a Space 1999 fan.
However, given the glacial progress of our space program, they had better change the name to Space 2999, if they want to show something beyond low Earth orbit.

Didn’t the Space 1999 people shoot down the same UFO special effect in every episode?

Tough to find a new version of the Doublemint Twins, though.
