What happens to global warming science when the Earth refuses to warm?

Global warming: Been there, done that. Forward-looking folks are adjusting their fretting machinery now to something called Cycle 25. Button up your overcoats. Ice is on the way.

Global warming, which was mostly a scam invented by researchers looking for government grants, is over. The great warming phenomenon, which was supposed to have sent polar bears to vacation in Miami Beach by now, ended in 1997.

Britain’s Met Office, which tracks weather and makes forecasts, and the University of East Anglia Climatic Research Unit, the source of much global warming research (some of it faked, some of it not), agree, according to the London Daily Mail, that Planet Earth could even be heading for an icy patch “to rival the 70-year temperature drop that saw frost fairs held on the [frozen-over] Thames in the 17th century.” They call this Cycle 25.

The report of the findings in Old Blighty follows an op-ed essay in the Wall Street Journal, signed by 16 eminent scientists, including both physicists and other climate researchers, that the panic promoted over global warming is not now, and never has been, shared by “large numbers of scientists, many very prominent.”

More here… http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2012/jan/31/pruden-when-the-earth-refuses-to-warm/ “World temperatures may end up a lot cooler than now for 50 years or more. It will take a long battle to convince some climate scientists that the sun is important. It may well be that the sun is going to demonstrate this on its own, without the need for their help.”—Henrik Svensmark, Denmark’s National Space Institute. Mail on Sunday, 29 January 2012

“Nature is about to carry out a very interesting experiment. Ten or 15 years from now, we will be able to determine much better whether the warming of the late 20th Century really was caused by man-made CO2, or by natural variability.”—Pal Brekke, Norwegian Space Centre, Mail on Sunday, 29 January 2012

“If temperatures continue to stay flat or start to cool again, the divergence between the models and recorded data will eventually become so great that the whole scientific community will question the current theories. The real issue is whether the model itself is accurate.”—Nicola Scafetta, Duke University, what government grants do i qualify for

It’s already happened.

They changed the name to ‘Climate Change’.

instead of global warming,it could be about the possible freezing or raining in the Sahara, ask the scientists or the weather forecasters, they never get anything wrong.

The US government has spent over $ 79 billion since 1989 on policies related to climate change. Where do we go to get our money back?

Seventy-Nine Billion dollars of Taxpayer money wasted

The government keeps running full speed ahead. DDT being proved eminently harmless (to everything but bugs) did not change the course of its status in law and regulation. Ditto Alar. Too many bureaucrats make their living from AGW. Too many politicians have vastly increased amounts of power to wield because of AGW. AGW might as well have been written into the Constitution. Reagan is the only conceivable politician who might try to actually repeal stuff and Reagan is no longer part of the conversation. And he did not succeed at a similar task when he was president. He trimmed some of the regulations but could not eliminate any bureaus and if you don't dismantle the infrastructure the superstructure continues to grow of its own accord as well as by new Acts of Congress and new Executive Orders.

Exactly and its why I get irritated when I hear conservatives proclaim that we've won the fight.

Agree, we haven't won anything. Billions of dollars have been wasted, countless dumb regulations instituted, valuable time that could have spent on real science frittered away, and in the end these people will just come back with another dumb theory of why free markets are destroying the planet.

That's what this has always been about from the beginning. Using science as a tool to move people towards collectivism rather individual freedom. It will always be something. Global warming, global cooling, population bombs, holes in the ozone layer, etc. The one thing it will ALWAYS have in common is that mankind is causing it through evil capitalism. Oh sure, there are other petty motivations - some just trying to take advantage of the situation and make money off something like cap and trade, many scientists almost can't help themselves when they see all that grant money to be had, etc, but in the end the movement itself is about stomping on individual liberty and free markets.

“Climatologists are pessimistic that political leaders will take any positive action to compensate for the climatic change, or even to allay its effects.”

God save us if they do.

It is already part of our cultural mantra. I continue to read about global warming and “carbon footprints” as if it were a foregone conclusion. The public, at large, has already absorbed this as fact, and it’s not going to leave the encyclopedia of collective wisdom.

I’m afraid you’re right, it’s too ingrained. An article of faith like Christ’s resurrection to Christians and 72 raisins to Mohammedans. Are the Google billionaire boys going to give up their Priusi, grab themselves 8 cylinder Jaguars and say, “oops, we wuz wrong!” ?

At the same time the CO2 "dome" theory was totally discredited with the standard argument that CO2 and other trace gases quickly and evenly dissipate into the nitrogen matrix.

That is why the models worked so well to predict the current runaway greenhouse effect.

Reagan's error was in hiring on folks who were strictly big picture ~ and whose experience with regulations was strictly downstream (once their lawyers had failed to get changes during the implementation process).

Grace Commission comes to mind.

The next President should hire some "regulatory theoreticians" to point out where there are opportunities. There aren't all that many of them around at any one time ~ maybe a dozen to two dozen ~ most of them not lawyers ~ and not well known at all.

Currently one "name" is out of business and might well be willing to work to UNDO stuff ~ that'd be Tony Wiener. I'm retired and certainly willing to help. There are others ~ maybe even some of the other folks who post here have actually done the sort of work building CFR material, supplemental regulations (encorporated by reference) and handbooks.

Remember, not everybody who sticks rules together likes them!

I've never found EPA rules to be that all difficult to deconstruct ~ yet there are specialists in EPA rules that you have to hire at $250 an hour who will tell you how complex and unbeatable those rules are. That's a scam.

Same with all the agencies.

You did know Tony Wiener wasn't a lawyer YET he stuffed ObamaKKKare into a single package 2000 pages long ~ a task for the ages. Then one picture of his penis later he was out of there ~ which rather proves how they think of the rule writers who got them there.

President Eisenhower also issued this warning in the same speech which is famous for “military-industrial complex.”

“The prospect of domination of the nation’s scholars by Federal employment, project allocations, and the power of money is ever present – and is gravely to be regarded.

“Yet, in holding scientific research and discovery in respect, as we should, we must also be alert to the equal and opposite danger that public policy could itself become the captive of a scientific-technological elite.”

And today we have reached the point where the academic-governmental complex has captured public policy and proven to be used by the progressives who want to turn the United States into a European Socialist country.

Mountain dude ranch propaganda and politics aside, the weather is likely to begin getting more interesting in about three years, give or take, and more interesting than that in about six years. The spraying ice is deeper this winter at over 9,000 feet and will probably increase in volume and depth each year from now on. Temps are consistently about 10 degrees F lower just downwind from peaks (14-ers) than reported this winter (tourism).

Along with the economic slide, the weather to come will make northern tourism and real estate a goner for some time. Real estate is also confronted with the fact that my generation of Baby Boomers will be croaking in earnest for about 20 years or so.

...just to cheer y’all up. ;-)

>> Global warming is not science but theory, and unprovable theory the way they went at it.<<

It is NOT a theory. It meets virtually none of the criteria for a Scientific Theory. The so-called “climate scientists” take advantage of the fact few people outside the scientific community know what a Scientific Theory is.

This is the time of solar max, BTW. It won’t be getting any warmer after another year or so.
