I leave the legal power to decide on life and death for me to my family - my husband and sons. Humanists with a legal paper they can drive trucks through to serve the “collective”...never.

Unless they are terminal, it is not appropriate to ask this question to the elderly. The answer is complex; not a box checking situation. Also, many are not equipped to negotiate this on the spur of the moment with humanists. They don’t realize eugentics is alive and well in medicine now.

Everyone - warn the elderly and handicapped in your families that unless they are terminal and are looking at death, they want to keep their options open with a REVIVE answer. If EMT efforts don’t work you will die or be in a hospital at which time, your family (who you should mentally and legally equip to decide for you) will decide what is going on with you and what is best based on your expressed wishes.

Do not sign over your organs to society on your drivers license! Some want your organs more than they want to expend the money to fix your broken body and that is only going to get worse. Your family can decide all that for you based on the circumstances. Otherwise, they get no say and you get axed at the whim of whoever is on duty.

"Your family can decide all that for you based on the circumstances. "

Yeah, that worked out so well for Terry Schaivo.

Personally, I'd rather decide for myself, ahead of time, and have my wishes on file, rather than leave such decisions to the morons in my family.

Sorry you have morons as family members. And you think strangers governed by government death committees or judges like the ones who killed Terry will take better care of you? That is pitiful.

Terry did not have morons as family members; she did however, fail to get away from an evil and abusive husband. Don’t compare Terry’s family with your personal collection of losers.

The "Health Care Directive" is something of an assurance though I suppose it can be seriously misconstued. Smart folks have a directive signed, notarized and sometimes written and signed with a lawyer present. It's one of the first things workers in the ER read upon should an emergency occur to myself , is read. it's usually a hot pink, bright orange or may be filed in the computer on a database.

The advance directive is a bit hard to read and sign but it's generally in the best interests for your own health and yes your mortality which shows doctors and nurses just how far to go in your desire to recover, or to be left as a DNR( Do Not Resuscitate). I am no statinjg Obamacare may take this to an extreme but in this portion I think it's in most folks interests to have one and yes, as a person noted the Living Will. One need not have both but if in an accident and if severe then it's imperative the doctor or doctors follow your desires/needs.

It's one of our rights to a quality of life, and in this case the quality and care of our mortality in death. Again however to restate, I have no idea what Obama's death panels are and am as concerned about this issue as the rest that post in this area. It's a real "life and death" issue and should not be taken lightly.
