Burnt Weeny Sandwich and Uncle Meat by The Mothers Of Invention are the most inventive prog albums of all time for my money, and elements of both albums border on jazz/rock fusion as well. Zappa's output was mind-blowing, but he was all over the musical board...it's tough for people to give props to a guy who did just about everything as well as it could be done (albeit with a bizarre spin) every time.

Total brain fart on my part that I didn’t include Zappa on my list... If you get the special DVD edition of Apostrophe, it goes into great depths analyzing the music and the various mixing of all the tracks and sounds. Great stuff!
