IT'S THAT SIMPLE.
Why don’t you invite Ron Paul to join the festivities?
Santorum could be Newt’s Dan Quayle
I like the idea but it would have to be Newt/Rick
Newt is too old to take VP and Rick would be in a good place to become Pres after 8 years of newt
Newt also should say nice things about Ron Paul’s constitutional ideas- and hint that he would put him in charge of the Fed.
There’s no room in the country big enough for both of those egos.
Throwing Saint Rick a million here and there would be a good investment for Mitt.
Pray for America
The only thing Newt has to do is find a way to reassure Santorum supporters that his history doesn’t mean anything and he is really a conservative.
Make us forget his statements on amnesty, liking some of ObamaCare, global warming and Nancy’s couch, Freddie Mac, Moon bases, “rightwing social engineering”, etc
When he can do that, Santorum would fade away quickly.
This is all Newt needs to do to make his case.
The calls for one of them to drop out at this stage is far too premature. Santorum is appealing to a subset of the conservative movement that is very wary of the compromise candidate Newt.
I don’t know why anyone bothers to complain about Santorum, it seems lately they complain more about him than Ron Paul.
This is a primary, it is Newt’s job to make the case and close the deal. Santorum is not spoilng anything, he barely even campaigned in Florida.
IMO.
Santorum is in it to tank Gingrich. He’ll end up with a plum position in Romney’s cabinet, maybe even the VP.

Newt's vote count and delegate count eclipse Santorum by a large number and this is likely only to grow. Together, in cumulative, Newt and Rick together easily beat Romney. Apart, they will keep losing.
I know Santorum is hoping that when he goes one on one with Mitt in Missouri he hopes he can win and point to that as why he should be the man. But if he waits until Super Tuesday he may have waited too long.
Too late. Newt was very nasty towards Santorum and now it is all out war. Santorum is polling higher in many states than Newt. Santorum is upset with Newt’s bashing and won’t listen to him now. Had Newt been smart, he would have talked to him last week.
Keep your day job, dude. Krauthammer and Steyn are safe for the moment.
Exactly, Ricky is Mitts little helper hoping for great reward for selling his soul and principles. What a fool. Hopefully Newt can pull it out anyway and send both Ricky and Mitty into the outer darkness of politics.
Bill mentioned a lunch bunch he meets with which included Charles Kruthammer.
What hit me was the following, as the Late Mark Scott Michigan Libertarian Talk Show host used to say Cui bono? Who Benefits?
Ah let us count who does...
* Santorum himself. As a Huckabee type spoiler which will give him greater gravitas and a bigger contract fee.
* His place after the election is assured as well as the cash flow as a TV or Radio talking head.
* As talking head, he will continue the us vs them game that all the talking heads do.
Now who else benefits...
* The ruling class and the Punditry Class, ergo the Bennett lunch bunch, they are at the trough and do not want the change, that Newt will bring, he and his change is too, "uncomfortable"...
* They must destroy Cain, Palin, and Newt to keep the game of musical chairs going.
* They must destroy us Freepers, & Tea Partiers once and for all and never relinquish the GOP to the likes of a Reagan again.
I am convinced even "our" talkers feel we are the great unwashed and are an embarrassment, they like when we give them victories for power, but other than that, they probably disdain or outright hate us. Let's face it I will not carry their water, No more donating or volunteering and maybe even voting against their incumbent weasels.
With that said, I fear a door is closing i.e us influencing the GOP/RNC.
If so it is over, we have no home. It is time for us to move on and find another party, better yet build our own.
I fear they will destroy Newt.
I read here more and more and I was one of the 1st to say so and took a lot of $H!+ for it, i.e. I cannot pull the lever for Romney, I will write in Palin, Goldwater, Reagan, somebody, I revile the man that much.
If it is Romney Obama wins, we adapt, innovate and overcome. Chances are "it" all falls apart, we find one another and rebuild from their. Maybe that is the destiny, and all we are doing has been futile in trying to try to stop it...
Damn Shame, Rick will have had a hand in it, and not a good one....
2. RS may be on the Romney payroll and/or may have a job promised in a Romney administration.
Just like Bachmann, Perry, Cain and all the others whe were on Romney’s payroll. You guys are nuts. Rick is running for President and has 4.5 million to spend. He is polling very good in the mid-west. Well over Newt. Newt should drop out and endorse Santorum.
take away votes from Newt?
So now Newt is entitled to those votes?
He should earn them. If he can’t convince social conservatives to vote for him then maybe THAT is the problem.
I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw that negative ad that Santorum has running. I was beginning to agree with Rush that the guy is the only one who’s stayed somewhat above the fray, and if he ended up being the conservative alternative to Romney instead of Newt, it wouldn’t be too bad. But now...well, let’s just say I’m way beyond disappointed in him and his campaign.
Santorum is so ‘holier than thou’ but in the same breath he was mud-slinging at Gingrich!
It is ok for him to mud-sling but not for his competitors?
It will be fun to see him whine and cry and get angry when he gets the mud-slinging from romney and the E and the media! Or to watch him being IGNORED BY THEM!
But then he will not get the chance to be the front-runner as he ‘envisions’.
RS may be on the Romney payroll and/or may have a job promised in a Romney administration.
Do you really believe this? RS is one of the most principled politicians I’ve seen.
I suspect and have mentioned that perhaps Santorum is vying for a Fox news job.
