A hapless cat had to be rescued after trapping its leg in its own collar - for TWO WEEKS.

Distressed feline Phoebe was seen hobbling around a woman’s back garden after she managed to her right leg got caught between her neck and collar.

-snip-

Manager of the centre Katie Wickins said: 'We believe Phoebe may have accidentally caught her leg in the collar because it was made from elastic.

'These collars are advertised as being safe so that if the cat gets caught on something, the collar will stretch and allow the cat to free itself.

'Unfortunately this was not the case and the stretch in the collar allowed Phoebe to get her front leg through it.

I understand completely, I also have an outside cat, one of three, two are indoors. We inherited Rastus with the house when we moved in, his owners went to a retirement village and could not take him. He has been the ruler of ‘the roost’ in both our back yards and the neighbour’s for the past ten years. The only time he consents to come inside is during a heavy thunderstorm.
Rastus demands to be let outside again as soon as the storm is over. He’s now at least 12 years old and still catches the odd rodent and proudly leaves it on the doorstep for us to find.
And I know that if I tried to lock him up, it would drive him crazy.
The only way you can have a happy inside cat is to start that way with them when they are a kitten. Once they are familiar with the great outdoors, it’s too late.
Every summer I cross my fingers and hope Rastus doesn’t become a victim of snake bite (lots of brown snakes where we live)...or get run over, as happened to another neighbour’s cat.

It sounds like Rastus has the life of Riley. - Out here, Stuffy has sixteen acres of mostly woods where she can hunt and sharpen her long claws on a different tree every day.

She eats everything she hunts; has no feeling of owing us a share of her catch. I suppose she’s selfish; but that’s just Stuffy being Stuffy. A prissy cat couldn’t make it out here; in fact, her two siblings were killed early on by something. They were delicate, feminine and looked totally Siamese and fancy. We have all sorts of wild animals out here; bobcats, coyotes, rattlesnakes, and other. Stuffy looks totally Persian, and most likely has the toughness of a Persian. She is dark gray and blends in with the outdoor colors. Once killed and ate a whole squirrel.
