Newt Gingrich leads Mitt Romney among Republicans, he is the weakest of the Republican candidates tested against President Obama, according to an NBC News-Wall Street Journal poll released Thursday evening.
This is an election we cannot lose. Maybe we draft a new electable conservative candidate. The worrisome part is this:
Gingrich weakest against Obama
“Romney fares best against the president, trailing Obama him by six points among registered voters, 49 percent to 43 percent. Thats a four-point improvement for the president from a month ago.
Obama, however, beats Gingrich by a whopping 18 points, 55-37 percent, expanding the presidents 11-point lead a month ago.”
As nasty as Romney is, he ain't from Chicago. Obama/Axelrod will gut Romney and let him bleed out on the street.
Newt won't need to play dirty...he will simply tell the truth.
Go Newt!
Newt will connect with the people and turn those numbers around.
Seriously, I would not trust any poll put out by NBC. Why WSJ attaches itself to this is beyond me.
So NBC Obama network makes it a point that their boy Mitt is closer challenger to Obama than newty newt. They fear us!
The reason for Newt’s poor numbers is because he was trashed in the late 90’s and the Republican Party let him spin in the wind with no effort to set the record straight. I think the House banking scandal and The Congressional Post Office scandal, which Newt and his 7 freshmen—”The Young Turks”—exposed set the RINOs against him.
We see a parallel episode with Sarah Palin, who exposed corruption in the State of Alaska. Once again the RINO branch of the Republican Party let her spin in the wind when cooked-up ethics charges came whirling against her.
Nonsense.
NBC MUST include a negative when reporting a positive about Newt.
The media wants us afraid .... and we must fight the urge to give into it.
Brian Willaims and Chuck Todd were absolutely kiddy about this on nightly news. It was sickening.
The MSM and liberal/RINO politicians have been pumping b******t about Newt into peoples’ brains for years and years. So no wonder he doesn’t poll well for the general.
That will change. A vast number of people in this country are sick and tired of being lied to, and sick of the crap that’s going down in every corner of our society, and they are fearful of where this country is going.
Like you say, as the campaign unfolds, they will hear Newt speaking words of truth and common sense, and the polls will change quickly.
Why did I know this was an NBC “poll”. LOL! Barry’s Kids.
Actually, I think any Republican will beat Obama. Obama, despite all of his negatives (from minimal experience to Jeremiah Wright) won easily because of one, and only one, reason: the economy collapsed in October 2008, and the voters wanted a change-- any change. With the way the economy continues to collapse, the voters will vote for anyone over Obama-- Romney, Gingrich, Santorum, whoever gets the Republican nomination will win handily.
NBC-Obama and WSJ-Obama beating the drum for Willard to be the nominee and inevitable loser against the Kenyan Muslim. Which has been the goal all along.
1. Republicans are barely paying attention to the GOP primaries right now, unless their state's vote is coming up soon. So there's no way Independents or Democrats — except political fanatics like us — are paying any attention right now. This means they are all voting on name recognition alone right now.
2. Based on the name recognition voting factor in #1 above, and on Gingrich's looks, anyone under about 40 yrs old doesn't really know anything about Newt Gingrich, so they don't know to vote FOR him. Thus, in the head-to-head contest, they are voting for Obama based solely on who they know more about and on Obama’s looks vs. Gingrich's looks. Gingrich is an old white guy with white hair that they know nothing about. Whereas Romney is “the right age” white guy, and they may know he's not extreme Right (aka moderate), so he's an acceptable not-Obama vote.
3. The elderly remember Newt from his days as Speaker. They may hold negative memories about him, and they haven't updated their impression of him with current information. Given time — time to get to know the new Newt, by watching current debates, and realizing that Gingrich has matured in his political positions and actions — elderly voters will come on board with Newt.
4. Once the choice truly becomes a choice of Obama or not-Obama, a LOT of people will vote for Newt. Even if they don't particularly like him, they will come to understand he is better than another 4 years of Obama.
I'm not worried about current polls that show Romney doing better against Obama than Gingrich. They simply haven't had time to learn anything about Gingrich. None of my friends know anything about Gingrich unless they are political junkies like I am. (We live in a state with a late primary, and NO ONE here is watching the debates or paying any attention to the process at this point.)
Agreed. Romney will not go aggressively against Obama, any more than McCain did. Newt will. Newt is also used to savage attacks on him by the Left.
Don't worry, if Gingrich is the nominee, Obama's goon squad, with the MSM cooperating, will make sure everyone knows everything about Gingrich, and they won't have to make up anything.
Who did the sample? nBC has a history of oversampling Dems.
No compromise for me though.I will vote for a candidate who represents my ideals.
I will ultimately answer to God, and the consequences of that judgement will be eternal. All the things of this world will pass away.
Exactly. When push comes to shove, the People will vote for the alternative to 0bama...
