MIDDLETOWN, Md. - Heidi, the Golden Retriever puppy, loved to play - especially in water.
"If there was a puddle in the driveway, she'd go roll in," says her owner Lynette Kaufmann.
But when you called her name, Heidi came right away. That's why Kaufmann knew something was wrong Wednesday on her farm in Middletown, Maryland.
For years, Lynette and her husband have been foster parents for rescue dogs, including Molly, who has a spinal injury.
"I can't stand to think of a dog not having a home," she says.
After a short run on the farm the other four dogs returned to the house around 10:30 Wednesday morning, but Heidi did not. Lynette and two friends searched the farm for three hours and had nearly given up when they found 7-month-old Heidi dead in a field.
The puppy had been shot three times.

And yours was all speculation, likewise. I’m openly postulating other possibilities besides “GUILTY!!!!!” as you all assume. (”What if” rather than “definitely guilty!!!!”)
As for “violent” - I never said anything about violence (but you’re still naive to assume any dog - any age, any breed - you DON’T actually know does not have a poor personality). The dogs don’t have to be violent, but just in chase mode. That is trouble enough for some other animals.
Oh, and I did not make up that I live within an hour of the area and know it somewhat. Don’t try saying that I’m lying. I didn’t even “make up” things about the dog - I postulated what could’ve been.
I’m wondering if maybe the Kaufmanns have a Muslim neighbor?
