Listening to Midnight Trucking Radio just now, and they have a guy on talking about an engine lubricant product called Motorkote. He talked it up so well, that I got curious and went to their website to have a look.
I read through the testimonials for the product on their site, and I've gotta say, this stuff sounds terrific. Truckers and normal auto owners say all sorts of great things about the stuff.
Anyone using this stuff, or have you ever heard of it?

A few folks have said that this stuff works so well, that it saved their engines when they were catastrophically low on oil.

Reminds me of that old product, Slick 50.
I never noticed any improvement.

To me it could be the old time molycoat i.e.(molybdenum disulphide I think) packaged under a new name. Used molycoat years ago in the fledgling aerospace projects.

All I know is that the Midnight Trucking Radio Network is excellent.
I like Eric Harley and Gary McNamara’s analysis of things better that that of most national pundits.

I'm interested, because my '98 Chevy Silverado is at 177K, and though she's been one helluva work horse, I want to do something to extend her lifespan.
They're saying that this stuff lubricates all sorts of stuff like nobody's business. I'm intrigued.

Is this a repeat of slick 50? Don't think so. Sounds like something that really delivers on its promise. I'm still checking it out.
Eric Harley and Dave MacNamara are a couple of trustworthy conservative talk show guys who talk about the trucking industry. I tend to think they wouldn't have this guy on their show if they hadn't checked the company out first.

OH! I can answer!
In general, these types of additives do provide some level of benefit.
Here’s the thing. The base oil itself becomes the issue. All the whizbang additive may provide 1 zillion miles of service, but the oil itself is good for 5-7K tops before serious degredation begins.
Are they worth it?
You are further ahead with a high quality and expensive Synthetic of proper weight. Additives can indeed provide benefit, but the cost to benefit ratio isn’t that great.
I have pulled apart engines that went 200K on Penzoil and scraped the sludge away and I have pulled apart some with 5000 that ate bearings. Just use great oil, great filter, change regularly to avoid either scenario and you are good to go.

35 years ago when I was a messenger driver, I used to put 300 miles a day on my work vehicle. I religiously changed the oil once a week for 18 months on that car, using only Pennzoil.
When I sold that car to my brother in law, it had 121,000 miles on the clock, and ran as good as the day I bought it new.
Still intrigued about this product, though. I want to believe, Normie!

Slick 50.... I never noticed any improvement. I did. But I was using it in a Wankel engined Mazda RX-3. All those edge and tip seals seemed to like it. And that engine mixed a little oil into the gas, about the only way to get it to those seals.
