When Newt Gingrich scolded CNN's John King at the South Carolina debate, he didn't just stand up to the media; he smacked down Saul Alinsky. When a candidate can do that, he won't just bloody Barack Obama's nose, he can deliver a knock-out punch to Alinsky's prized ideological protege.
Take a look at Rule number five in Alinsky's Rules for Radicals, which states:
Ridicule is mans most potent weapon. Its hard to counterattack ridicule, and it infuriates the opposition, which then reacts to your advantage.
This is exactly what King attempted to do by bringing up the charges made by Newt's ex-wife in an interview with ABC's Brian Ross. Did King infuriate Gingrich by asking the question right out of the gate? Yes. Did Gingrich react to King's advantage? Absolutely not. He channeled the fury of conservatives and successfully delivered a counterattack squarely on the jaw of a biased, liberal media bully; King had been stunned in epic fashion.
Conservatives know that the mainstream media is running interference for Barack Obama while attempting to portray objectivity. Deceit, once exposed, arouses righteous anger. Gingrich did just that. He did it thoroughly...

Well done sir. Right on the money, and why it is soo important to nominate Newt. It is far more than just winning debates. It is about turning around all of the “rules” in our public discourse, which now all favor the liberals. And it’s killing us, and MUST be reversed.
Only Newt has a chance of doing that.
Enough of us are familiar with Saul Alinsky’s writings that we can deflect the injury easier. We need someone who understands this. They can’t hurt us if we know what they’re doing.
Worth the read, a little semi ping for you.
Before the orgy begins here, may I just ask a question?
Why all the love for Gingrich?
If you step back and view his history in its entirety, I cannot for the life of me see much there to appeal to conservatives.
I’m ‘m not even talkking about the morals aspect.
Dede Scozafova, anyone?
AGW w/ San Fran Nan?
Venture captical = bad, lobbying for Fan & Fred = good?
From an even more general perspective, is it not pretty clear this guy’s in it for Newt. Period?
I know Romney sucks. Believe me I do. But shlould hate for one guy really translate into fervent passion for another?
I’m honestly surprised.
I would have expexted the tone around here to be more like it was in the run up to the McCain debacle.
??
Took the family to a sports bar-type restaurant for dinner last night where one screen (for whatever reason) was tuned to CNN. Thankfully, I couldn’t hear it, but every show was going on and on about Gingrich; as though he was the only candidate in SC.
My impression from the captioning was that they were in high dudgeon over the beat-down Newt put on their boy King—It really had them wrapped around the axle.
Good to see.
If there is one in this field of candidates who knows this, it's Gingrich. He knows what he's doing, so let's see if he's aged well during his time in the wilderness.
It’s so unfair of that awful Newt person to do that. Waaaahhhh!!!
I recommend you read one of his books.
LePer zot.
I supported Palin.
But the media did all they could to be make her stay out of the race.
So I supported Michelle Bachmann.
But the media did all they could to make her seem "crazy" and "stupid", so she lost all her momentum and ended up working for Mitt.
So I supported Herman Cain.
But the media did all they could to destroy him with charges that were neither illegal nor serious, and he dropped out.
Now I support Gingrich.
In part, because Gingrich is ready to go to war against the media.
It’s soooo unfair.
You perhaps are suffering from “selective memory” - something that will certainly prevent you from understanding what you are seeing. Ironic since you give yourself credit for reviewing history in “its entirety.”
Perhaps you don’t remember the 94 elections or what life was like in congress for some 50 years before that.
Perhaps you don’t remember Denny Hastert and what life was like with the Republican congress after Newt.
Perhaps you don’t remember the brilliant and passionate defense of Sarah Palin that Newt delivered.
Perhaps you are blinded by all the times that McCain made us stand up and cheer for his defense of conservatism. Oh wait......
The “entirety of history” presents both reasons to cheer and reasons for concern. What is so interesting is that only Newt’s supporters are looking at both sides.
Zot!
I do believe there are a total of 5 us on FR who feel the same.
Newt’s smack down of the media is an act: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0112/71741.html
I love it!
Politico is now a trusted source???
I have enjoyed Newt in the debates and how he has torn up the media.
