Former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin came to Newt Gingrich's defense Thursday night as allegations about his second marriage threatened his surge in South Carolina's primary.
Hours before the airing of a controversial ABC News interview with Gingrich's ex-wife, Palin appeared on Thursday's radio edition of the "Sean Hannity Show." She noted that Marianne Gingrich's claim that Newt wanted an "open marriage" will do anything but damage his 2012 hopes.
"I call them dumbarses," said Palin in the interview, referring to the media

but, yeah. I do.
That was my last one for today and it’s just like advertising.
While you may have seen the ad there are many who haven’t and others who haven’t become aware.
There are plenty of posters who are actually getting the real truth about Newt and his accomplishments that others have sought to undermine and obfuscate.
Most people don’t know that is was Newt who thought of those big things, put a pen to paper to develop a strategy to accomplish them and then achieved 2/3rds of the American Agenda under his stewardship.
I know seeing the same thing over for astute posters is old but bear with me as I help others understand Newt and his ability to actually do something meaningful.
That is my last one til later and then I’ll vanity it on Sunday or Monday.
Thank you in advance for your understanding.
Both of my grandparents came from Sicily, so don't get pissy with me.
It's not a nasty word and you probably haven't got a clue where the term dago came from.
When Italian immigrants came here in the late 1800s, and couldn't speak English, many got jobs on the railroad construction sites.
They knew that by being payed weekly the bosses were shorting them on their pay and began demanding to be paid daily, by pointing to their palms and saying "day go, pay" and the Irish thugs that even then were humping for the soon to be union bosses, began to deride them by calling them dagos.
No shame there, and no apology coming from me, a proud dago, and I have no idea what rankled your sensitivities.
Can you at least try to condense it so that it doesn’t take two screen-pages? ;)
Good point. Also it seems reasonable for Newt to assume that Marianne might be open to having a mistress since apparently she was okay with it when she was the mistress. I don’t know how she can manage to feel so vicitimized when she herself committed the same offense against some other woman AND children. Why should we believe one adulterer over another one? it’s a wash.
Spin it anyway you want. Sarah clearly defended Newt.
Theres a real danger that the Left will try hard to co-opt he family values
You post:
“Rick would have to think real hard about calling it a day, but his dago dander is up, and he may just team up with Newt’s first wife and claim Newt and his wife and their dog Spot had a menage a trois.
Nothing will surprise me at this point.”
I don’t think Rick will touch this subject with a ten foot pole.
Not out of conviction, but fear. I think he’s holding his breath right now that the story that was broken in the London papers and been picked up by some blogs, might go MSM.
I imagine he especially doesn’t want the abortion doc’s statements about him and his wife back then to come to light. This story is really more damaging than what may have happened between two people in their private life. This has to do with beliefs that affect others - particularly in a president’s hands.
So I do not think you will hear a peep out of Rick re the Newt/bitter ex subject.
I looked at it a couple of times and couldn’t stand the length of it or the formatting but, then I decided to just go with it and see what happens.
There have been a few annoyed Freepers but the response to the premise has been overwhelmingly positive with three Freepers asking if they could use it in other areas.
If the response hadn’t been such that it is, I would have totally changed it and reformatted it.
However, since the post is receiving private and public accolade I’m going to leave it alone for now.
I’ll come with a different one maybe next week and but I probably won’t post it again past Wednesday as it will have plenty of time to create awareness.
Mitt needs to have his legs cut out from underneath him and Newt’s very clear message has to be spread.
Again, thank you for your patience and advice.
Gotta get back to work.
Not going to defend Marianne on this point. She says she began her involvement with Newt after he had filed for divorce.
I think conservatives are insane to vote for Newt. Newt is a Washington insider, has his fingers in every pot, and is a hypocrite and serial philanderer. Plouffe and Axelrod are sitting on a treasure trove of ammo which will be more than enough to sink him.
Newt may be the GOP’s best debator, but he is quite delusional if he thinks BHO is going to agree to a series of Lincoln-Douglas debates. Besides the American people will eventually tire of his outsized ego, pomposity, thin skin and delusions of grandeur.
Not spin, just observation.
Palin’s been very careful about what she says — her non-endorsement endorsement of Gingrich was limited to South Carolina, with the express intent of derailing Romney. For the purposes of South Carolina, it’s as good as an endorsement, but it doesn’t translate to, say, Florida.
In this case, she excoriates the media, but doesn’t take it upon herself to defend Gingrich’s actions, either, beyond pointing out that the source for the story can’t exactly be counted on to be unbiased. The real story is the unfair and sleazy attack on Gingrich, and that’s what she commented on.
Nor am I going to speculate as to the reasons why she might be trying to keep her cards close — there are too many possibilities to get into — but there’s no doubt she’s not ready to commit to anything or anyone just yet.
Who do you want? Mitt? Obama?
Perhaps you are NOT a Newt supporter. However, most agree that her statement regarding John King, Marianne and also her push to keep Newt in the race in SC shows support. She would not say that if she wanted Newt out and supported another candidate. Have to consider her husband endorsed Newt too.
Yes, she clearly defended Newt..sorry if your man was not included.
If you want to push homosexuality then spit it out, don’t be coy.
Paul and Santorum are still standing.
I will ENTHUSIASTICALLY vote for WHOEVER the GOP nominee is.
No candidate is perfect, but they are ALL vastly superior to the Marxist who is currently occupying 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
Okay, Paul is just nuts. He sounded sane last night, but they didn’t ask him enough questions to get the crazy out. Might have been on purpose. Santorum actually did not think SOPA was bad. That’s kind of scary.
It’s pretty hard to watch Rick. He needed Thur to be a big night and Newt sucked all the oxygen out in the first couple of minutes. He was completely deflated.
Not interested in promoting homosexuality, just applauding those who respect the sanctity of marriage. Especially those who do it over and over again with new spouses.
I think Paul gave his best performance last night ever. Romney gave his worst performance. Should have simply said he will make his taxes avaialable as soon as possible like Santorum said.
BTW I don’t give a rat’s behind about Romney’s tax return or any other candidate’s for that matter. Romney simply should have said yes I will release the returns or no I won’t. That “maybe” answer was quite pathetic. He is getting terrible advice.
