Dirk Nowitzki Eats German Sausage in Bank Commercial, Vegetarians Freak Out (video)
NBC Sports ^ | Jan 15, 2012 | Ben Chew

Recently, Dallas Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki did an advertisement with Ing-Diba bank in his native home of Germany.

The commercial shows Dirk entering a butcher’s shop and being offered some wurst sausage from behind the counter.

At first glance, it appears that the advertisement is harmless enough but for some reason, German vegetarians were not pleased with Dirk chowing down on meat:

In the shop an elderly lady behind the counter gives Nowitzki a slice of wurst to sample. A propos of wurst-eating she asks him: “What did we always used to say?” she asks the 2.13 meter (7-foot) basketball whiz just as he is about to munch his sausage. “So you grow big and strong,” Nowitzki replies.

First impressions of the ad are that it is folksy and nostalgic. But take a second look and that’s when it hits. What is the butcher shop lady giving the player recently voted German Athlete of the Year? Wurst! Dead and ground-up animal! It was enough to unleash a barrage of complaints by vegetarians on the bank’s Facebook page. The bank responded by appealing to followers to deal with the issue with the “greatest possible respect.”

So, I guess we still live in a world that an NBA Finals MVP can’t eat Wurst sausage in a commercial without someone freaking out:

I prefer my beef steaks cooked medium rare. That’s when they are the juiciest. Nothing is better than eating a good steak across the table from a vegetarian trying to enjoy a chunk of bean curd or textured gluten.

And then there is bacon.

Or even better - combine the two.

Bacon wrapped fillet...mmmmm.

Of course, Fat Khloe probably ate all of the sausage before Dirk had a chance.

Looks like Gorgonzola or Bleu Cheese on top of the filet. At a Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse you could have that filet with a heap of jumbo lump crabmeat on top, with Bernaise Sauce over that.

Ooooohh Baby!

Why is it your business what others do or don’t eat? Hypocritical.

And if you didn't see any of my intended humor, then may YOU sit in a cold refrigerator drawer and rot. :o)

What kind of dervish are you? Dancing, whirling, singing, traveling, what kind besides a non-meat-eater? Is there a sect of vegetarian dervishes?
