Well I'm not 100% about my call either, Jaz, since it is a Eurasian species and I'm only a North American birder.

But, hey, the fun part is doing the sleuth work (which we both did) to make an educated guess. To me, that's one of the most enjoyable things about birding.

Let me know when you get that snowy owl! And keep a look out for gyrfalcons. One was just photographed at Stillwater NWR a day or two ago (northcentral Nevada).

My daughter got a picture of a bald eagle at the corner of her street perched in a tree, rural area....Michigan, about 50 miles N. of Detroit...she was glad she had her camera with her...she is a birder and has lots of bluebirds nesting in her boxes. Watched an eagle eat one of her ducks, had a box for wood ducks on a branch over her pond and one year has them raise a brood...they would just drop out of the box into the water when ready to fledge...
