I too was struck by the clarity of the 30 year old film as well as the sound quality.

You are right, it is difficult to confirm that it is a CD-jewel case, but it raises doubt, none the less.

I called it a book, frankly I was focused on the “jewel case” and did not give the “carousel” too much thought.

CDs were around in the late 1970s, just not in the US; they appeared in popular mags as the next big thing sometime around 1977 or 1978, and audiophiles (with serious cash) were enjoying them before 1980. I didn’t see my first CD until 1981 or ‘82, and they didn’t hit in the US until about 1984, when “Born in the USA” came out.

But no, he’s not a psychic.

The first ones I bought were used, at a store (long gone now) near 28th St and Breton here in Grand Rapids, that was approximately 1983 (by comparison, I bought my first home computer in 1984). I also joined Columbia House for what was at that time a great selection (basically nothing in the local stores but expensive import CDs, and those were in the high-end audio joints), right about the time I finally got the first player I bought. The second player I bought is still hooked up in the living room, although I’m not sure who was president when I last used it. :’) At this point in my life, some of my old friends and all those 20-somethings at work poke fun at me because I still buy CDs. :’)
