The french are mostly communist or nihilists and the rest are muslims. When you go to a Cathedral in france all you find of the faithful are a few little old ladies, a "young" priest is 65. The only exception you will find are African Imports who actually take faith seriously. They are the ones who take their kids to Mass, or Sunday School, the native french are far to "advanced" to pay any attention to that "God stuff".
The french are as heathen as any far flung tribe in the 1800 ever was, actually more so. They at least had a sense of God, not so in france.

Unless I'm missing something, that's what Mormons do when they go on their mission. Why would we be surprised?
