Go to source and watch the amazing video. Poor dog. Even though he was hurt and traumatized, he knew how to get help. I hope he gets adopted if there is no surviving family to keep him.

This bastard should rot in hell.

Taking the life of another because of a DUI should be punishable by death.

Poor poochy is now with out a mom. :(

This is SUCH a sad story. I hope the dog has a good home with someone and I’m very sad to hear about the owner.

“...was fleeing from an earlier crash...”

Lock him up and throw the key.

What an awful story! I’m so sorry the owner was killed by some drunk idiot, but I’m glad the dog found help. Unbelievable!

Bless this guy for helping poor traumatized Barney. I can’t even imagine how frightened he must have been. Vizslas are exttremely intelligent and beautiful dogs. (I had 2 of them as a kid)

Very tragic about his owner being killed in what should have been a pleasant outing for her and Barney. So very very sad.

This article tells a little more.

I wonder how long the poor dog was in the water?

Here is another article with a photo of the victim’s sister with Barney—what a beautiful sweet faced dog.

Can someone post the photo? I forgot how to do it.

This story is about as tragic as it gets. I knew the victim and her youngest son. She was a gem.

Three yahoos were drinking heavily at the beach pavilion Saturday afternoon and started harassing some of the families enjoying lunch at the beach. It got so bad that pavilion employees had to call the Sheriff. Two LEO's came to the pavilion and told these scum, who were blatantly drunk and disorderly, to move along or get arrested. Two of them stumbled away to the beach. The other started shouting obscenities at the cops and got arrested. His friends asked the cops when they could bail him out. They replied that it would take a couple of hours. At that point they walked to the parking lot, keys visibly in hand, got in their car and drove 90 mph (in a 40 mph zone) through a residential area. The driver was unable to negotiate a turn and hit a tree. The car caromed off the tree and hit Dr. Chen, who was walking her dog. She died instantly. She leaves behind three children.

I wrote our County Commissioners asking them to explain why the police would allow a group of flagrantly drunk yahoos, who were harassing innocent families, to go back to the beach where they could continue harassing people, while getting even drunker, instead of being arrested. Had they arrested them, for breaking the law, Donna Chen would still be alive. Shockingly, the commissioners do not see a problem with these fellows being allowed to continue their drunken abuse of other beach-goers and none of them realize that by condoning this kind of behavior, you will only get more of it. Drinking alcohol on the this particular beach is permitted and the weekends are filled with drunken behavior that makes it a challenge for families to enjoy the beach. There is rarely a police presence so the drunks rule with impunity.

One idiot commissioner said she's going to make sure the speed limit gets lowered from 40 mph to 35 mph. This is the kind of intelligence we're dealing with here. It's sad and tragic. If the Sheriff's deputies had enforce the law, and arrested the drunks for harassing people at the pavilion, this woman would still be with her family.

This is so sad. Poor dog, poor owner.

Though I don’t think the dog was seeking help. He was scared beyond reason.

This is a case where drunk driving and vehicular homicide should carry a death penalty.
