Defining Deviancy Down, continues

Here is the latest skirmish in the ongoing Defining Deviancy Down, to borrow from the late Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan.

At WalMart today, I saw for the 3rd or fourth time an in-the-aisle display of KY's latest product, "Date Night." It even has its own link at WalMart.com. It looks like KY is marketing the daylights out of this product (npi), which includes discounts on movie tickets.

Call me old-fashioned (no, that's not an action item) but is this the right message to pass on to the general public? Where's the decorum? The concern for the children? Is Nancy Reagan's "just say no" now "just say yes???" Does a company in pursuit of a dollar have any moral responsibilities?

I understand the nature of the product line and can even appreciate McNEIL-PPC, Incorporated's right to market their products to the public. And market they do ... but seriously, "Date Night?" Are all the restraints of decorum cast off?

TOPICS: Business/Economy; Society
KEYWORDS: commercialism; morals
Pop quiz ... what would DPM think of the current crop of RATs?

DPM would probably wonder why the Soviet Union is coming to life in the USA.

Maybe you're not just "old-fashioned" but in recent decades it's been commonplace for married couples do "date nights" to keep a relationship fresh.

I'm not a fan of the product's TV ads, however.

I see another poster made the point I was going to make. “DATE” night is not just for singles. In today’s busy world, married people have “DATE” nights to make sure we keep the romance. My husband frequently asks me to go on a “date,” and we will celebrate our 23rd wedding anniversary in May.

true, but that is the point ... this is not targeted marketing, this is a display in the main aisle, reaching everybody. I have no problem with the former but that's not what we have here.

I know...I saw the commercial...during primetime...I think they were showing Elf w/ Will Ferrel. Couldn’t believe it. I get it.. advertise your product, but it does seem that this product is on HYPERadvertise! Seems like they are on all the time.

I think Dan Moynihan would be appalled at the accelerated pace at which depravity has become accepted as the norm in general society. He may have been a Liberal, but he was a gentleman, civilized, and a WWII veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Do I have to do a search? Couldn’t you just tell me what you’re talking about?

Actually... A week before Christmas, my daughter saw a KY
lesbian commercial. I told her we probably will not see it again
because decent people WILL write and call in protest.

So... they just made a more subtle gay commercial using a
non human. Ick! That just sounds creepy.

We’re doomed!

And the end is not in sight. After the queer, freak and pervert marriages will come the children and animals in the next round of assaults on decency by the deviants.

I don’t see anything wrong with DATE NIGHT. Just teach your kids that some LIBERALS think that it is needed...
